Need Help From the Pros.

To those of you who have read my post from before, I bought a Trane XR15 with a HW Vision Pro IAQ stat so that I could control humidity in my home. The problem is I don't think the installer knew how to correctly wire it nor set the dip switch settings to do so. Right now with my humidity setting at 45% it stays anywhere between 52% and 65%. I keep my AC at 72 during the day.

So I felt you guys could probably help me out. I was going to take some pictures of the EIM wiring but they did not turn out so great. So I will have to list what is wired where. First of all, my heat pump is a 4 ton unit Trane Model No. 4TW5048E1. The V/S Air Handler is a 4TEE3F65B1 that I am running along with an Aprilaire 5000 air purifier.

Here is the EIM wiring.

Left Side of EIM:

1 - Red from stat

2 - White from stat

3 - Light Blue from stat

C - Dark Blue from A/H

R - None

RC - None

RH - Red from A/H

Also Yellow Jumper wire to DHM1

D1 - Yellow Jumper from RH

H

M2 - Brown from A/H

Right Side of EIM:

W1 - Orange from A/H

W2 - White from A/H

W3 - None

Y - Yellow from A/H

Y2 - None

G - Green from A/H

Dip Switch Settings:

1 - On

2 - Off

3 - Off

4 - On

5 - On

6 - Off

7 - On

8 - Off

Please let me know if this wiring or the dip switch settings are correct or not and what I could do to correct it. Thanks.

Brown wire from DHUM2 to air handler? Where does it go there?

Your dip switches are set for 350 cfm per ton on 4tons. This would be the low setting and preferred for better humidity control. Switch 5/6 controls the fan on/off delay. You are set for a 1.5 minute delay @ 100% airflow on cond unit shutdown. Meaning, your indoor fan will run for 1.5 minutes after your o.d. unit has shut off. This slightly increases efficiency, but I find in high humidity areas it also reevaporates condensation back into the air stream. I would set 5&6 to off. On the new communicating models it allows you to take advantage of the 'slow', ramped start up w/o having to continue the fan on shutdown.
You'll have to wait for one of the experts for h.pump wiring info. On humidity....your system can only control humidity when it is running. If you are at 50%-55% or so while running, but jump to 65% while the unit is off, your a/c unit can't help you. You will need to address what is causing the rh increase or look at installing a dehumidifier. I have seen the stat, while mounted on a return chase, read the humidity in the chase (chase had a flex duct return but the chase itself was not conditioned or sealed). Double check your high rh by removing the face of the stat and placing in the center of the room. See if the rh reading is the same.

I had always been taught that when using HW VP IAQ for "dehumidify on demand" that comfort r was to be cut off completely. it's one or the other-not both.

Comfort R is a unit/fan function built into board, why not let it do its thing?

H/W dehumidify fuction still overcools setpoint (1-2 degrees) to assist in dehumidification right?

True dehumidification would have a means of adding heat into air supply to keep ac unit on longer.

one of the main functions and reasons for using Honeywell's VisionPro IAQ is its 'dehumidify on demand" feature. Trane's 803 and the identical HW equivalent control humidity by overcooling not by running the VS blower on low to dehumidify like the HW VP IAQ.

Comfort R is to be cut off when using the IAQ and its "DOD" feature. They do not work together.

    Tiger,

Which dip switch controls Comfort R and does my EIM wiring and other dip switch settings look okay to you?

I have a DF system with an XV90 furnace. I will need to go under my house and check the dip switch setup. I can't remember the ons-offs sequence. It's probably going to be tomorrow before I can get to this. perhaps some other forum members can comment. as I recall, you have an air handler which may not be the same.

it really is a shame though that your installing dealer can not help you on this. if they don't know, the local distributor who sells Trane normally has a residential specialist on their staff and my experience has been these guys are all pretty sharp.

Comfort-R can be turned off and in my opinion should be. Whenever airflow is decreased, efficiency is decreased. No need for the slow ramp-up with Comfort-R since the IAQ will control when extra dehumidification is needed based on the demands of the cooled space.

If you're going to drop the airflow for dehumidification with the IAQ control, I would personally rather see the CFM/ton set to 400. However I can't see your ductwork condition to make that call, and if you did bump it up to 400 cfm/ton SW1 on, SW2,3,4 OFF), then the charge would most likely need adjustment. Your dealer should be able to make this adjustment for you by charging by the manufacturer-specified subcooling temp.

I've never installed an IAQ thermostat (have the 8000 at my house), but the wiring looks OK to me. I assume that RH,R,RC are all jumpered together from the factory (otherwise I doubt the system would be working).

see previous post. switch 5/6 controls fan delay settings including comfort r

Trane also makes a separate control to drop fan speed 20% when humidity is above set point. Much better than just running the temp down past set point. It's an ugly control, usually not wired in correctly. I recommend placing it in the return, setting and forgetting. It will not bring the system on, but if the stat is calling the fan speed will be reduced by 20%.

Have you addressed whether your system is controlling humidity while running? Has your TD been checked across your evap coil, not at the return and supply registers??

Since I am not the brightest bulb in the box when it comes to HVAC knowledge, I do appreciate everyones's help but am still confused on this Comfort R subject. If Comfort R is to be turned off so my HW IAQ stat with its "DOD" can control humidity, I need to know which dip switch needs to be turned off to turn off Comfort R. Thanks.

as I stated I have XV90 VS furnace not air handler so my dip switch settings may be different than yours.

however, my chart is located on the inside of my furnace door cabinet. you need small hands/fingers to move these settings.

5 and 6 are both on for Comfort R

5 and 6 are both off for no Comfort R

Thanks guys. I am going to try changing the cfm setting along with turning Comfort R off and see what happens and then go from there.

If you change the CFM settings, they have to check the refrigerant charge, since I'm almost sure it will need some adjustment. You are changing the amount of airflow passing over your coil.

    Thanks Ryan,

I might wait on changing the cfm setting until I get an a/c person out there.
