Wrong AC installed

I agreed to have a Bryant Preferred AC installed, which is specified in the contract I signed. The work was performed last week. Over this weekend I noticed that a Legacy model was installed instead. It's my understanding that the Legacy line is cheaper than the Preferred. I haven't paid the balance of the job yet, and of course I plan to contact the installer tomorrow (Monday). Any advice? Should I insist that the correct AC unit be installed? Should I ask for a discount? If so, how much? Thanks, from Bob

Have them take it out and put the right unit in. Their cost, of course. Depends on the model numbers located on the units themselves, as far as how different they are. While the differences may not be many, the Preferred is still a nicer piece of equipment.

Bryant has changed their product line structure and how they classify their models in 2010.
Go by the model number not the sticker on top of the unit.

    Since 2010
The legacy line is now the line with the wire frame that surrounds the condenser.
If you have a powder coated condensing coil cover guard around your condenser you now have a preferred series Bryant even though it may have a sticker that says legacy.

    Thanks for the responses.

The model number on the installed Legacy unit is 126ANA048-A.

The model number of the Preferred unit promised on the contract is 126BNA048000.

Should I be concerned about the difference?

From what I see, the 126A has the 2 stage scroll and is a deluxe unit. Should be installed with a variable speed furnace or air handler. It has a full cabinet. Not on the current list so would be an older model.

The 126B looks identical but has a single stage scroll. Being single stage it doesn't matter if on variable speed blower or not but only gets 14.5 SEER with standard motor and 16 SEER with the high efficiency motor like an Evolution furnace. The 116B is a Preferred.

There's also a 116B which is a Legacy and wire grille like c-dave described. Used to be called the RNC series.

So if you have a 126A without a variable speed indoor unit, better have a chat with the dealer. While it is a fancier unit than the B model, you don't get the benefits with a standard motor.

Hi, thanks for all of the messages and help. The contractor offered to change the unit or lower the price without a hassle.

If you have a 2-stage outdoor unit with a variable speed indoor unit, I don't think I'd change anything, as baldloonie said. Something you'll have to ask your dealer about. If the 126B has a single stage compressor, then of course the 2-stage 126A is preferable, if placed with the correct variable speed indoor unit to make it work the way it should. What are the model numbers for the indoor equipment?
