Figuring out pattern from finished slippers

I'm new on this forum; have knitted some small items from patterns but haven't done much else. I have a old pair of short boot-like slippers that my mother made years ago. They are my very favorite style--I've made or had many others over the years-- and the only pair I have has a hole worn thru the bottom. Unfortunately, my mother died almost 20 years ago and I didn't get the pattern from her nor can I find it anywhere else. I'd really love to make a few pairs for myself and my husband. Do any of you know how to figure out a pattern from a sample? I know it is a fairly simple pattern (knitted flat and sewn up back)--my mother made tons of them and gave them as gifts to many relatives and friends. I'd appreciate any help/suggestions you can give me.
