Cabrio - pretty nice

Hi Folks,

Since I enjoyed your posts as I researched a recent laundry room remodel, I thought I'd take a moment and let you know how it went.

First, it was a pretty straightforward project: tile floow, new baseboard and trim, paint, ceiling respray, a cabinet/corian/sink/faucet to replace a utility sink, and new appliances.

Originally I wanted a cabinet in the corner, with a top to extend the width of the room for a workspace, and then tuck the washer and dryer underneath. The only set I found that would fit under a standard height was Asko, and they are small. Also, no gas dryer option.

Next thought was to use the Whirlpool Duet Sport, and build the countertop height to accomodate the 38" height. But I started becoming concerned about the reports of vibration and noise from the front loaders.

So we decided on top loaders, and to forget the countertop idea altogether. I got everything in the room done (floor, ceiling sprayed, paint) and ordered the cabinet and related components.

Deciding on appliances: First, since both my sis and my folks have Fisher & Paykel, and love them, that I thought I'd go that way. The top load dryer seems pretty cool. But then a neighbor came over and coincidentally had just gotten Cabrio and said she'd let us know how she liked them. She did and does, so we ordered a set from Sears. The dryer arrived dented and so I called and they said "would you like compensation or a replacement?". The replacement arrived in a couple of days and was fine. It's not as good as the delivery being perfect the first time, but not bad service. I didn't have them install, since I had a plumber already scheduled.

Anyway, we've had them for a number of weeks now and here's what I can tell you:

The washer capacity is *huge*. The first load was 12 pairs of adult-sized jeans without a hitch. Likewise the dryer capacity is huge too. The washer is pretty quiet. The controls seem to make sense. There are a lot of options, but the defaults seem like they work for most things.

In summary, we like them. The glass is fun but not real necessary. The controls are nice, and the high speed spin of the washer is great. How does it clean? I won't really be able to say until soccer season starts again. A few loads of sweaty, muddy clothes will be the test. I'll let you know.

Best New Years wishes!

Rich
