Last year my Kenmore washer made an awful noise and then it stopped spinning altogether. Sorry to tell you, but probably what is happening is that the spinning gear is shot. If I recall, it cost me about $200 to get fixed. Repairman said main cause is when people try to overload machine, and the wet load becomes too heavy for the machine to spin without straining.
If I were you I would be very careful about overloading it...especially with towels, jeans, and other heavy things. Fill it up with water before you start adding things, and stop adding things if they aren't being pulled under. You want the clothes to move, not sit on top.
My husband insists on cramming too much in the machine because he thinks it's "wasteful" not to load it up to the gills. One year later after having a new gear put on it, ... again it is not going into a full spin, so I am also faced with dealing with this issue. I could strangle him.
