I hope this is the right place to post this. Our current kitchen has no heat and gets very cold in the winter, so in our upcoming kitchen remodel, we want to install hydronic radiant floor heat, staple-up from the unfinished basement below.

Right now the floor has a zillion layers of linoleum/tile, which we will be removing down to the original hardwoods (random width heart pine, I believe). This floor is it--there is no "subfloor", just floor. What I am trying to figure out is:

If we want to refinish the original wood floors and use them as our new kitchen floor, can the heating system go right under them or do I need some sort of barrier (or to put different floors on top and use the original floor as a subfloor)?

I have read that the width of the planks can be an issue, as well as the type of wood--I would not want any warping or splitting, obviously...
