4 ton air handler 5 ton compressor

I have a system which has a 4 ton air handler and a 5 ton compressor. I do not think it works properly. Has anyone any experience with this type of mis match. thanks

Post model numbers, doubt its a rated match, and could cause issues with the compressor.

A 5 ton outdoor unit will not work with a 4 ton indoor coil and air handler or furnace. The freon won't boil off correctly.
Verify this by the mod numbers as mentioned.

it is a YORK air handler and York claims same coil works for 4 or 5 tons but with a bigger fan (3/4 vs 1 hp)
    SERIAL NUMBER: A0L6110504
    PRODUCT ID...: AVY48D3XH21 AH 1PC ECM 4.0Ton 1600 cfm
    PRODUCED DATE: 11/27/2006

thanks...the compressor keeps tripping and supplier will not fix saying that air handler is OK for 5 tons

Post your outdoor unit model number and we can see if it's a rated match. That blower may be able to move airflow for a 5 ton unit, and your dealer may be right, but it's good to be sure. Ask your dealer for the AHRI reference number, certificate of match.

    Here is what i found...

    Material: AVY48D3XH21 View Wiring Diagram
    Serial number: A0L6110504
Product hierarchy: M13 Air handler 1 pc Stingray
Material Description: AH 1PC ECM 4.0T 25 FLEX HZ YRK
    Status: Active

If you look at the airflow data sheet, when you set the "Cool Tab" to A & the "ADJ Tab" to B, you will get 2138 CFM which should be fine for the 5 ton outdoor unit. The evap coils are the same on the 4 & 5 ton models, just a slightly larger ECM motor on the 5 ton, but i would make sure that model number is what they quoted you and not the AVY60.

    Hope this helps

Lennox contractor says Lennox 5-ton Condenser, Model Number EL18XCVS060 is compatible with 4-ton Lennox Air Handler Model CBA38MV-048-230. My home is almost 3000 sq ft of air conditioned space with 17 registers which cools all home spaces including 3 bathrooms and walk in closet, laundry room and hallways. What could be some of the potential problems with having an undersized air handler when compared to the size of the condenser?
