Marble will stain and needs more attention than granite. That does not stop many people who don't care about the fact that, at some point, it is going to look "well used and lived in".

There are many nice granites that are in the white family. I would at least consider them before making a decision. The granite will tend to stain less.

Also lots of nice quartz counters with a marble look.

"White Super" granite is actually Quartzite, a natural stone that looks like marble but is not nearly as pouris and is almost as hard as granite. It's one of the most popular stones around here and looks muck more natural and beautiful than man made quartz. Man made quartz tops look better with very modern doorstyles though.

@civelw1 what did you ever decide to use on your countertops. I'm about to embark on marble and just wondering if you chose this material.

Marble is a living stone, meaning it will change with use unless it’s sealed often. It’s a beautiful stone that will attain a patina from body and cooking oils. It will wear where it’s most often used. If you want a truly old world look, then don’t seal it. Use it and know that it will change look and color over time. If you want that crisp look of marble without the maintenance, look at quartz.
