Not familiar with your machine but this is what happened to previous (15-year-old) Maytag TL when its transmission began to fail. Service tech described the oily material spill as "tell-tale". Don't recall cost of proposed repair but whatever it was was considered to be too much to be worthwhile. The one that replaced it (identical) is still OK at 12 years.

Our Magic Chef had the same thing happen to it and it lasted 2 years with the leak from the transmission before it finally died, I was not going to spend anymore money on the washer as it was 26 years old.

The cost of a new transmission was something on the order of $200.00, plus another probably $100.00 more in other parts and it did not make sense to repair a old machine so we went with a machine replacement.

the general----I have been washing clothes for several months after grease was discovered under our 12 year old GE machine. The GE and Sears repair folks told me the repair is too expensive---(it holds about 3 quarts of oil)just use it until it stops running. It makes a loud noise---husband said the noise is from lack of oil. At 1st the oil was a deep golden color---now it is thick black but still running.
I am looking for a new washer---will get one from Sears since they have good service repair in our area.

If you saw any of my posts about my old Kenmore washer dying, that is what I found when it was moved. There was thick black oil with tiny shards of metal in it on the floor under the washer and on the wall. There was not an excessive amount, not enough that I noticed anything before the washer was moved. Luckily the floor and wallpaper cleaned up easily.

Don't the newer GE's use the same oil or a different one?
