Cha Cha Cha Chia!

This may be old news for some of you, but the other day my local news did a story about chia seeds. The kind you put on the chia pet's.

When they said Dr. Oz recommended taking/eating/drinking these, I couldn't believe my ear's!

So I did some online research and sure enough, he does! One of the biggest things Oz said was how they give you energy and are good for weight loss. Also, they have more antioxidants and vitamins than you can get by eating good food.

I ordered some and expect to get the seeds in the mail today or tomorrow, but I was curious if any of you have taken them?

You can sprinkle the seeds in your meal, but I'm going to mix them with water to form a gel (no taste) and drink it.

I actually learned about this at work a few weeks ago. I work the sensory end of market research and we often discuss odd ball foods.

I've been eating them for over a year. I add them to my morning yogurt, granola, & fruit mixture. I do think the extra fiber helps me feel satisfied longer. When I travel and don't use them, I feel hungry sooner than when I do use them.

Thanks for the link Hh. WOW. As I was eating my sandwich for lunch, the seeds arrived. After my sandwich digested a little, I mixed 1 T. w/one third cup water, let it sit for about ten minutes, then drank it.

The energy hit me within ten minutes, just as someone said in one of the reviews. I immediately started doing more Christmas decorating. LOL.

    Two thumb's up!

I bought some chia seeds a year or so ago when Dr. Oz mentioned them. The seeds have an extremely long shelf life, and I still have some around here.

I soaked some and added them to brownie mix. They make the brownies really moist.

I don't know anything about the chia seeds, I hope they work the way you want them too. But I am beginning to wonder about Dr.Oz, he's beginning to resemble an infomercial.

Maire, I don't watch him because from what little I've seen of his show's, it's all repetitive. I get it. I need to eat better, exercise more, go on a diet. LOL.

They are great as a gel in breads to help maintain moisture. Great in smoothies too.

oakley - we're in the same boat as far as diet and exercise go. Boy how I wish I enjoyed exercising.

If you run out of eggs, the chial gel makes a good egg replacer or if you need to make a baked good vegan. I have not tried it yet, but there are also recipes for a chia tapioca pudding where you soak it in coconut milk (or other milk of your choice) and sweeten and serve with fresh fruit. I am waiting for the summer to try that though.

I'm not sure I ever feel differently from anything I take, but I keep taking it because I know it's good for me. I add chia seeds and hemp seeds to my fruit smoothies.

Msrose, I'm taking mine "straight." lol. I want to get the maximum benefits so I'm mixing it with water then spoon feed myself. It takes me a good ten minutes to get it all down so I won't gag.

I'll probably sprinkle some in food, but taking it straight at least I know I'm getting a decent dose of the seeds.

I never heard about them providing an energy burst nor have I noticed any change in my energy level. I take them for the fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids.

Don't forget that 1 tablespoon has about 60 calories. Every calorie counts so you might have to adjust elsewhere if you're now adding an additional 60 calories to your daily diet.

Oh, and I meant to say
I get it. I need to eat better, exercise more, go on a diet.
This is the funniest thing you ever wrote!
