Tide Washing Machine Cleaner

My Duet front loader was starting to smell slightly musty, despite ckeeping it clean, door cracked, etc. I even ran bleach through a hot cycle, and also tried vinegar. Still a bit musty.

I went to Lowes to pick up some Affresh and they didn't have any. Instead they had the Tide washing machine cleaner, formulated for both top and front load washers.

Well, here's my take on it. It cleaned the musty odor out all right. However, it has an extremely strong chemical scented smell. I had to open windows despite having my air conditioning on. I ran another load cycle with no clothes to try and rinse some of the smell away.

I then ran a hot heavy duty load of Jeans. Despite hanging my clothes on the line outdoors, I can smell this sickening scented odor in my clothes.

I am so sorry I tried this product and plan on calling the Tide people. The musty smell was better than this.

If you dislike artificial strong scents, don't use this. At least Affresh never passed on the smell to my laundry.

Any suggestions on how to clear this out?

I can't help with cleaning the odor out of your washer but I have used this product and I didn't notice an odor after use.

I have a really strong scent that is still persisting. It reminds me of those awful car air fresheners some people hang in their vehicles, or strongly scented vacuum cleaner deoderizer tablets. We went out to dinner and as soon as we walked in I could smell it in my house. It's nauseating.

I took the rest of the box with the remaining two packets and set them outdoors. I can smell them through the box, and can smell it on my hands from handling the box.

I'm running some baking soda through my washer right now and am hoping it gets rid of it.

I won't be using it again, and will be giving Procter and Gamble a call about it tomorrow.

Wow, thanks for the heads up on this. I hate the strong smells in so many products.

I finally got the strong smell out. It took several hot washer cycles with no clothes in them. I also ran vinegar through some of the cycles. I think it was the vinegar that finally worked. I've never had a product odor infuse the laundry itself before.

I can't stand strong artificial smells, so this one really got to me. I've been busy with visitors and haven't called the company yet, but I will. Maybe they'll come out with something less offensive to those of us that like light or no scent to products.

My box with the other two packets is still sitting sitting outside.

I first used Tide washing machine cleaner quite a few months ago, and while I think it has a distinctive smell, I did not find that the odor lingered or transferred onto clothing after it was used. I just checked the packages of Tide washing machine cleaner in my laundry room, and I cannot smell anything through the packaging. I've always considered myself to have a sensitive sense of smell, and I often smell things that others do not notice.
