Help with FL Choice Please!

We're trying to decide on a front load washer/dryer combo that will fit in our budget of about $1,500. Our main consideration is the noise level, as our family room is on the opposite side of the wall from the washer/dryer hookups.

We actually purchased an LG 2016 yesterday with matching dryer, but after discovering this forum and reading the LG complaints we're considering canceling and going with a different set. Our Laundry room is on the first floor, but it is above a basement, would we still experience the problems with vibration? Would anybody have other choices to recommend such as the GE Adoras or Kenmore HE2T's?

One of our main problems in making the choice is that it seems 75% of the models in our price range that were rated on Consumer Reports are no longer sold in the big box stores, having been replaced by different models which haven't been rated yet. If you do have recommendations, I would really appreciate the help, thank you!

(Sorry if this post appears somewhere else...I posted earlier, but after searching for 20 minutes I couldn't find it and assumed I didn't fully submit the post)

I recently bought the Samsung with VRT technology, with the matching dryer,I have had no problems with this set,you would not belive how smooth this machine runs,no matter whats in it.They sell them at lowes I highly recommend considering this model.May be a good idea to call samsung and get a list of local service providers .

The Samsung VRT will be out of your 1500.00 range if you are trying to buy a dryer too. If the 1500.00 is just for the washer you are open to a huge array of fldr's. Do your research on all of these machines. There is a lot of negative experiences/information about all of the brands here not just LG. Based on what I have read it seems that Bosch has the worst problem of all w/vibration issues. I still think it is a good machine. If you are going with LG call and make sure they have adequate service in your area. You have to be coy though, because they will tell you anything for a sale. Kenmore/Whirlpool have had a ton of issues and I am not a fan of any Fridgidaire products. GE could not even make a good top loader, although you will find several people here that are happy with all the above listed products.
Regardless to what you hear....go with a fldr that has a heater. For me, size was a huge factor. I like looks (miele's got slapped with the ugly stick), plenty of features, dependability and performance. Personally if I had to do it over again I would go with the LG WM2487 (what I have), the Samsung VRT, Bosch Nexxt 700, Kenmore HE5t. My personal choice. Again folks have brought from all different brands and are EXTREMELY happy with their purchase. If you listen to everybody up here as to what you should buy you will die from indecision!!! Have fun shopping!

"If you listen to everybody up here as to what you should buy you will die from indecision!!!"

Ditto that. And don't get too excited about the horror stories. Internet forums, by their nature, attract those. In the real marketplace you may be aware that even with the very worst machine of recent years -- the Maytag Neptune FL that generated the lawsuit -- the vast majority of those who bought one were/are satisfied with the machine.

I'd advise finding out who's best equipped for service in your own area, Don't buy something you can't get serviced easily if you need it. See who seems to be serious about taking care of your market area. Whatever you're going to be looking at hasn't been around long enough to have a meaningful reliability record so don't get too excited about that. Get a good price and make sure competent/thorough installation is in the deal. (Bad installs are a very frequent complaint)

I'm reading a lot of glowing posts about various FL washers where it turns out the owner never had a FL before. IMO, all FLs clean better than TLs, so I'm not sure it isn't merely the switch that has posters so happy.

I bought a Frigidaire Gallery FL washer six years ago for $600. It died this week (bearings shot). I'm buying another one, still $600. The first one worked perfectly to the end. Never had a service call on it or the dryer (which is still working fine.)

I never in 42 years of marriage had SuperHot wash water. (An internal heater is a feature of some new washers.) My clothes got clean. I'm not in Europe where heating water is super-costly. We don't have huge loads, so I don't need super-large capacity.

If I can wash clothes clean for $100 per year, I'm fine.

Many front loaders -- especially those without heaters -- don't clean nearly as well as toploaders.

Temperature is a major factor in cleaning clothes and top loaders will alwayss be hotter than front loaders without heaters.
