I have a Kenmore Heavy Duty that is 5 years old or so.
The exhaust duct run is short, running into the patio and the whooooo sound from the blower is excessive, droning and downright irritating.
From my limited knowledge of fans and blowers I assume that using a small blower with a high speed motor results in the high pitched whooooo sound.
I am going to replace this dryer with a new gas dryer, want to spend enough to get a quiet blower, but as the dryer is in the garage I don't think I need the insulation packages that keep the noise from entering the room, that's not the problem. Don't need a lot of features, but do want a moisture detector upgrade from the more usual temperature detector controlling dryness.
It seems impossible to find comparative specifications on the noise db level present at the dryer vent. Consumer Reports has a noise rating, but I am not sure that this rating can be used to compare exhaust vent noise.
I know my much older dryer had a low speed blower the produced a much more acceptable rumble sound compared to the present high speed whooooo. Has dryer design gone backwards in search of greater efficiency?
Any experts out there who can recommend makes, models?
Thanks,
Gary
