I'm worried about the 'entry' into the kitchen. The doorways are narrow --you show one or two that are only 2 ft wide...is that accurate? The main door into the kitchen is 28", and that's what I have on our pantry. OK for that, but narrow for carrying things in. I think you plan to angle the corner of the island overhang near that entry? Even so, the space between the doorway and your island is tight for coming in and maneuvering, especially if carrying anything. That might be remedied by shortening the island 1 ft.

Other than that corner, I think the rest of the kitchen looks pretty good.

Overall, it looks good....nice work flow (Ref -> Sink -> Range), enough space b/w sink & range for 2 people to work, good aisle width, no "barrier island"!

I also sooooooo understand about a mudroom! We had to eliminate ours for budget reasons, but hope to DIY it over the next year or two.

But, like RHome410, I am concerned about doorway sizes. I was scrutinizing your doors & they look to be 20" ("2068"), 24" ("2468"), and 25" ("2568") wide. Our pantry door is 24" wide and while it works for a pantry, it would not work for a general entrance, nor will the 20" or 25". You will be carrying in groceries, kids will be bringing in backpacks & other misc stuff, etc. The doorways should be at least 30" wide, if not 36".

There does appear to be a sliding door (maybe?) that's around 2'9"....is that what I see on the right wall of the mudroom?

I'm also unsure of the island. In the layout, it appears to be only 24" deep, but in the elevation pic there apppears to be an overhang. Which is correct? If there's an overhang, then I don't think you'll have a 5' aisle, it'll be more like 45 to 48 inches (45" if 15" overhang & 48" if 12" overhang....15" is better, btw).

I'm so excited to hear that this seems good! We've gone through about 20 different layouts and before we finalized, I knew this would be the place to "double-check" myself.

The doorways aren't quite right (still learning this software) - so we WILL have a 36" opening from the mudroom into the kitchen. (And Rhome, yes, the island at that end will be angled as well - again, the software) Maybe shortening the island a bit or moving it toward the dining room a bit might help as well - great suggestion. I think we're going the "cardboard boxes" mock-up route in the next week to help feel how the space really flows.

The mudroom seemed to make sense there because of the window (it's not a sliding door, alas, just a window) that sits low to the ground with a radiator beneath. So we couldn't put cabinets under that window anyway.

We will have an overhang on the island, but it doesn't seem to calculate right in the auto-measurements of the software. So yes, more like a 45" walkway on that side. (Thanks for the tip about the 15" overhang being better, buehl.)

If money were no object, I'd definitely be making some of those changes Frodo_2009 suggested (wall ovens, larger island, etc) - heck even bumping out the front wall, but alas, we're not yet millionaires :-)

One more question...for the open layout, can we get away with a tile floor in the kitchen with hardwood everywhere else in the house? My husband really doesn't want wood in the kitchen (especially not in the mudroom) and is set on tile. But will it look strange?

Buehl, where a door says '2068' it actually means 2 ft, 0 inches by 6 feet, 8 inches...2468 means 2'4" x 6'8", etc., etc. That's why a builder will refer to a 'three-oh door" or a "four-oh-three-oh window," and so on. Just the construction/drafting language. :-)

I don't think the switch of floors will look strange. I've seen it a lot.
