How do I decorate a long wall with obstacles?

New house built with gigantic air return smack in the center of a long living room wall. The a/c guys said it had to be there, but it really is an eye sore. The flat screen tv sits near it and is placed for viewing from the kitchen island space on the other side of the room. The room is a gigantic great room, kitchen, dining and fireplace. We have 9 ft ceilings. Would wall mounting the TV help? i know i will have to deal with that sound system at some point.....but what to do? Any ideas on what my options are?

How about moving the tv setup to another wall opposite the fire place. And place the sofa to hide it. Keep a foot away from the wall.

If keeping the same setup, custom built a tv cabinet with some opening for the air return.

I think u need to mount the tv on the wall and maybe get a custom built entertainment center around it. U have a lot of wall space and that small set up is a bit awkward. So an entertainment center cabinet, This will steal all the attention from the air return. If u live in California, my husband does cabinets for a living. I have seen these and they really make a difference. Good luck!

Perhaps you could move the TV to the left or right of the fireplace, with the sofa facing both? Remove the grill, lightly sand, and paint the color of the wall. Place a pretty console table in the return area, with a beautiful piece of art or a mirror and sculpture. The return will not likely be noticed by anyone but you.
