Yes it should help. But you don't have to go as shiny as satin, even eggshell should solve the problem.

I had the same thing happen to me two different times, one was with True Value paint, very dark burgundy. It was a satin finish. It didn't chalk, just would rub off!
The other was with BM, the flat enamel; I can't remember what it is called. Again, it was a very dark color. I went back and forth with my paint store and BM, to no avail. My personal opinion is that they have to mix so much pigment to achieve a very dark color that it degrades the paint. You might have less of an issue with a satin finish.
However, many on this board have used very dark colors, so I don't know why some have had success, I have not. I do think a satin finish may help.
Chianti sounds like a wonderful color!!!!

It takes paint a long time to cure in and not be chalky. Don't be brushing up against it or anything when it is fresh. I always try to protect paint for at least a couple months or you will get chalky and pot-looking marks on it.

I agree, Patricia. It does take a long time to cure --- but I was still having these problems a year later when I finally painted over the whole mess. By that time, I was was out of my "dark" phase, so I was ready to cover it up anyway!!!
I went to a new BM paint store, and the lady there really seems like she knows what she is talking about. She advises not to use colors that need the ultra-dark base because of potential problems. Then, one would ask, why do they even sell it??? I know I won't do it again. It looked terrible.
My son worked in a hardware store about ten years ago. He said that when using the ultra-dark bases, the can was only about 2/3 full of paint. The rest was pigment.
But, then again, there are pictures I have seen on this board with very dark colors, even Texashottie's dining room which is black. Maybe different manufacturer, different finish, I don't know. I know I just now stay away from very dark colors.
