I would NOT recommend it if there is much excess sudsing. There's a low-sudsing Ariel formula (Bajaespuma), but I've never seen it in TX. I've seen first-hand what oversudsing an HE machine can do. I refurbished a Calypso that had been abused with high suds. The original owner told me she had used only HE detergent, but clearly that wasn't the case. The tub and basket before clean-up are pictured below. After getting it fixed up, I ran a cycle out of curiosity using about two tablespoons of Tide Coldwater powder, and the results were scary, LOL. I suspect she had been using reduced doses of regular detergent, which wasn't a strong enough dose to cut the soil and hold it in suspension in the wash water to be flushed away. Excess suds floated the crud up where it shouldn't normally reach, it stuck there and the machine's multiple rinses couldn't flush it away.

Wow! What is that brown stuff in there? Did they wash their clothes in cocoa? How can suds do that kind of thing? That's plain scary. I think I'll go get some of that new 3x concentrated Wisk my front loaded neighbour swear by.

On the Ariel: We have an appartment in Spain with a front loader (one of the smaller European ones). We use Ariel in that one without problems, and it doesn't say "HE" on the package. In fact, there's only one Ariel available there, and that's the one we use. Do you think the Ariel sold here in Texas is different?

I am able to get Ariel Bajaespuma (in the green bag) when I visit family in the Dallas area. My last visit to Texas was in July and I stocked up at Sack 'n' Save, though I had to go to two different stores to get 7 bags. But I'm set for awhile. Visits to several Mexican supermarkets (Fiesta, etc.) revealed NO Ariel Bajaespuma to be found.

All European detergents are technically HE detergents since they are designed for FLs and H-axis TLs. They don't make/use any agitator style TLs in Europe, so why make any detergents for those?
I doubt that Ariel makes any detergents that are not HE for foreign countries, but I seriously doubt it. I would try the Ariel that's available in Texas and watch out for any suds problems. I am pretty confident that it'll work just fine.

That was my thought as well. However, this Ariel is made in Mexico. I do not really know what kind of machines they use there. I guess I could try. If I see a lot of suds I know I can't use it anymore. I would try a small load on high temperature which is what would make most suds.

I am not sure about if Mexico is a country that uses FL washers only or not. since I got my Frigidaire FL and have been coming here I have decided to try Ariel. It works fine in my machine I use less than directed on the package, I fill a heaping scoop from my sears ultra detergent with Ariel for a loads of towels and whites. no US detergents can keep my whites and white towels looking as good. I use hot water and the heavy soil cycle on my washer with it, so I get a longer hot wash and 4 rinses. I don't have any issues with it being to sudsy or not rinsing out.

I have been buying my Ariel from Mexgrocer.com since I have not found a place in Pennsylvania that sells it near me. IF someone here can get it locally and send it to me cheaper than mexgrocer I would be very happy, even more pleased if I could try the bajaespuma version.

thanks for the tip on the new Wisk, I may try that. but you are so lucky to be able to get Ariel as cheap as you do. I have not seen it at my Wal-Mart but will check again. I have been paying 14.99 for 3 kilos plus shipping at mexgrocer.com
