If you've been to a Shabby Chic store or their website recently, you'll see that some pieces are not painted. Some of the vintage pieces they bring into the store are also not painted, but left natural. (fyi, the Corte Madera store of SC is having a 50% off sale this week on most in store items.)

A cottage look can have a mix of both painted and natural/stained wood. I have both in my home, which is a European Cottage. My walls are light. Trim, doors and windows are stained dark. Floor is stained dark, plus lots of stone floors. I have a mix of painted and stain pieces, most are antiques or vintage.

I don't think you would be making a mistake by mixing the two. Good luck with your makeover.

I think your style will look lovely and you certainly won't commit a faux paux, , but it won't be "shabby chic", it will be more cottage or country. Shabby Chic (as Rachel Ashwell does it) is very heavy on the white paint. I have her books and looked through them after I read this, and the look could include a natural wood piece for interest, but almost everything is of the white/cream/pale pink/mint palette.

With lots of natural woods and stenciling, I think you are after a different look. I am not sure what Swiss Country is, but your description does sound more "country" or cottage.

If you have a bookstore near you, like Barnes and Noble, look in the home decor section. With so many books you will surely find one that shows the very look you are after (it will resonate with you), and then you will know what your style is called, well, at least by an editor and publisher! LOL

Your style is yours and it is good. I wouldn't worry about labeling it Shabby Chic... A mixture of old chic things that are worn with love are home warming
Shabby chic is just a decorating term. Your style is your own.
I think you are celebrating it!
I mix natural wood and painted pieces. I like the contrast and character it gives.
