I am not sure what you mean by dome-it. Is it possible to post a picture that we can see?

I saw a great solution to the dome: the guy took out the flourescent fixture, put a thick white trim around the whole thing so it looked like custom cabinetry, lined the interior wall portion with sheets of what looked like stainless steel, trimmed those up with something small, of course, and mounted an s-shaped track light that filled the rectangle very nicely. He otherwise had a white kitchen with stainless appliances, so the trim and the stainless on the light tied everything together nicely to the point where it didn't look like a patch-over fix for an old dome anymore. The stainless also reflected light down more which looked great too!

The last thing I'd ever do in a kitchen is swap a fluorescent for an incandescent. We actually COOK in our kitchen, and no way would I give up that bright, even light.

But I guess some folks actually like more shadows. They make the cabinets and countertops look nicer, I'm told. Personally, I'd rather be able to see. ;-)
