So exactly how much weight have you gained?!?!?!

I hope I'm not the only one here whose kitchen remodel has me tipping the scales in the wrong direction (not that I want the rest of you to be fat too, but I just don't want to be alone in this, ha ha!)

I'm not sure if it's the stress, the take out, the long hours, the eating on the run (probably a combination) but I am up 8 pounds so far and I don't like it one bit!

NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! AND 8 POUNDS IS NOTHING!

Seriously? why don't you just ask me how old I am? :-)

lol, thankfully our project is nearly all DIY so we're both down about 4 lbs. However, we both have a long way to go so really 4 lbs is not that big a deal, I'm just glad the scale isn't going the other direction.

I'm going to say that I've been averaging about 10 pounds a year since they took my kitchen out....

I'm going to be totally honest. I'm 36, I put on 10 lbs. Yes, I needed to lose weight before the remodel, so 10 lbs didn't help at all. We're DIY when we find the time, so definitely not burning extra calories there. From May to October, we had only the one induction burner, an electric griddle and gas grill outside. We ate out A LOT. DH even programed all the "Kids eat free" resturants in my calendar.

In October we installed the oven and we started eating at home more. It's also when my Dr diagnosed me with pre-diabetes. After a a couple weeks of meds (metformin), I decided that I needed to take charge of my health. In November I started drinking Green Smoothies (Google it). My blender is now the hardest working appliance in the still-not-finished kitchen. I'm thrilled to report that since Nov, I've lost 15lbs!!!

I initially lost weight because I bought the low calorie frozen meals, then DH started bringing take out and we immediately started gaining weight. I put my foot down and the rest of the remodel saw us eating frozen low calorie meals. Never mind taste. Some are better than others. It's worth it to not gain.

As I struggled to zip my pants this morning, I wondered if anyone had covered this issue on this forum. It's a pound a week for me -- frozen food, takeout, pizza, danish, snacks and treats. I usually cook almost every meal at home, we maybe go out once a week. So this change in my routine is killing me.

Last week when I got wound up about a(nother) delay, besides not being able to use my office, practically living in the dining room and having stuff from my kitchen and office spread over every room of the house, I threw in that none of my clothing fits. Just another week or two ... I hope!

    voluntary and simple.

    cook from scratch.
    use up your staples.

    remain active.
    Very.
losing weight is not synonymous with losing bone mass or muscle mass.

I have gained 11 pounds since moving into this rental while we build. It's quite a bit smaller 3 hours to clean top to bottom. Old house 5 hours for downstairs,2 for upstairs. I never sat down during the day-cleaning, working in the yard(that I miss terribly) was always go, go go. Now, no yard to speak off:( I have spent most of my winter online shopping for everything for this house and ofcourse reading posts on GW. You guys have been so helpful!

Hopefully, we move in in March-if cabinet maker gets his a** in gear! I will have plenty to do! Can't wait to get started landscaping and getting my hands dirty again! I'm excited about having a clean slate. I added a bed a year for 9 years at the out house and was constantly tweaking previous beds.

Should lose that nasty gained weight pretty quick!

We actually lost weight during the 'no sink, stove or dishwasher' phase of the renovation. I chalk this up to 'one-pot' meals in the microwave without all the extra dishes on the table. We RARELY ate out during that phase. Take out is full of gunk we don't eat. Now that we have a functional sink, stove and dishwasher, we're eating more meals with alot of dishes. We've put on roughly eight pounds each. We're chalking this up to the cold weather and not moving around. Thanks Father Winter! As soon as the temps rise, we'll be able to take it off quickly. In the meantime, more vegetables, soups, salads and frozen fruit as well as less empty starches, meats, potato chips and sitting on the couch!

It's hard, isn't it? Our family doesn't eat out much (except hubby and I on Friday evenings), but my poor littles have been subjected to more Happy Meals lately than I'd care to admit. We still do OK at dinner since we have a semi-functional kitchen, but during the day, I often can't get into the kitchen at lunch time and we end up grabbing something in a drive-through. This is VERY atypical for us, and I am determined that it won't become a habit. Yuck.

I wish I could say it was the reno that tipped the scales
but truth be told, it is GW.
Yes, sitting on my fat keister while going on GW is so
much more fun than going for a run. Of course it does not
help that I hide chocolate in my desk.

Just combine what pinch_me and boxerpups said...

    ...and you've got me covered

    12 pounds at least

I didn't gain weight during my ktichen reno. I lost my mind though ;-P I think the only reason I didn't gain was how often I was going up and down the basement stairs to wash sippy cups in the slop sink. Two toddlers, no kitchen, dust everywhere and since it was a whole house reno we were sleeping in one bedroom, all four of us, can you say stress??

10 pounds and at least three weeks to go:(

We have a few weeks left before the kitchen is done and I was hoping to lose these extra pounds but....we just found out that we have another baby on the way!!!

So it doesn't look like I will be losing it anytime soon :)

Hmmm,so should I ask? How many people have gotten pregnant during their kitchen renovation ;-)

I lost about 10 pounds in two weeks (it seems like) after our flood (picture me going back and forth about 20 times a day between the flooded apt. and the temporary rental with a large red shopping cart moving china and other misc. delicates while the movers threw everything into boxes). To say nothing of having to walk up 27 flights at least 5 times in the day before they got the elevators working again!

But now, 9 months later in a tiny rental with no dining table (we eat in shifts at a bar height kitchen passthru) and many meals in restaurants (gives us a break from said tiny apt.) and weeks and weeks of stressful mold remediation and a fire/flood contractor from HELL -

I have gained about 8 pounds back.

I'm counting on the move back (in approx. 3 months) to help lose the weight (more trips with the red shopping cart)

I have lost 10 lbs. That is because I DO NOT EAT when I am stressed. I drink tons of coffee, though. My family, on the other hand, is doing just fine. I am still cooking healthy meals (crock pots, plug in burners and toaster ovens!). I am just opting out of healthy for the next little bit.

No remodel yet- just hours and hours, days, weeks, and now months scouring the world wide web looking, gathering, and fretting!!! My backside is creeping out behind me because I haven't moved since October!

Probably at least 10 since October 2009. (Plus I have to admit I love to get on this Kitchen forum and dream about my ideal life and kitchen that goes along with it).. Since then, only have the oven in a temp hook up in the kitchen. I did have a 2 burner portable cooktop but ditched that a few weeks ago as it seemed to have a problem shorting out. If anything I have become a more creative cook despite no kitchen. Tonight was Cabbage soup cooked in a Le Crueset type casserole and a one pot Cod and vegetable dish.. (I know doesn't sound so great but it was dinner on the table!). Both of my kids have developed a big interest in cooking since the kitchen was dismantled and dont seem to be put off by the fact that there is no kitchen lol.

SO IT'S NOT JUST ME????!!!! What a RELIEF! I'm now a cow. Mooooo.

THERESSE!!! OT - I swear I cannot write anything about stools without thinking about you! How are you? Back on topic, I'm not sure what's getting bigger, the circles under my eyes from staying up WAY too late surfing and obsessing, or my stomach. I think so much time spent pondering kitchens is having an odd effect on my metabolism.

Losing, as there's no handy fridge to pull snacks from. But it's not as if the losing wasn't necessary, and it's also not is if that 'losing' has still been enough! I'm worried what will happen once there is a kitchen back.... I have really liked the thinner me. No way enough to keep no-kitchen though!

I too have gained weight. In addition, from the time that I moved out of my house (for the 14 month remodel) - by the time I moved back in, I also "gained" bags under my eyes that I just know will never go away on their own! Let's just leave it at that. Oh how "misery loves company".

12lbs so far and gaining about a pound a week. But I do have a tiny human in my uterus...

Oh, so I'm not the only one that got knocked up during this process! Must be all the romantic dinners, a.k.a pizza and take out :)
