stuck . . .

I know several of you made suggestions regarding questions about my livingroom previously, but I am still stuck. I have never been at a total loss at to what to do. While I love, love, love the new wall color, I cannot make decisions on anything else! I did get the hallway painted in the same color and it looks better. I am in a conundrum about drapes. While the color in the rug appears a "green blue", it leans a little more toward green than blue. I clearly want to bring some sort of print into the room as it's current state is rather bland. I have found the following curtains, currently on sale at PB. I would love to hear your opinions on these. I keep trying to remember Magnaverde's Rule but keep coming up empty.

and the room (the wall decor will be changed out--it is the old stuff and the husband hung it back up!)

A solid would be airy. I don't think the two above blend with your rug (coloring, scale, pattern). Maybe a tone on tone?

i sure hope no one has the first set of drapes because those are just ugly - sorry - they just are.

The second set I like but not with your carpet.

I disagree with you about your room being bland. The carpet has a ton of interest in it as does your picture above the chair and those combined with your wall colour is giving you a very vibrant lively room. IMO.

I like the idea of the tone on tone in maybe a stripe.

In your picture near the top between the end of the fields and the sky there is a strip of colour that looks like a green/grey/blue that looks like it is in your rug as well. You could try that colour. You could also try a colour that is darker than your walls - for ex in your pic of your carpet in the middle there is (in the inner ring of where the cranberry dots are) a wheat green (for want of a better description) colour that is probably also in your picture. Perhaps try that.

I would find something that could act as a backdrop to your carpet and picture. I like the picture so I hope it's staying. The little frou-frous on either side you can keep as they mimic the shape of your clock but maybe put them somewhere else.

I like #2. What does your rug look like?

I love the first ones, but I don't think they would go with your rug. How about the one below unless a solid one?

Also, see this blog and the living room:

Perhaps the solid deeper colored velvet curtains?

I love the first ones too but would need to see them with your paint and rug.

There are some pretty drapes on "O".

Wow! Thank you all so much! I love the different curtains you have suggested!

blfenton, lol! Not offended at all. I was just trying to find some sort of print with similar colors in it. I love the pic, but was afraid that it was too "dark" for the vision I had for the room. But perhaps it should stay. Those little things on either side were added previously because the wall was so long that it looked awkwardly barren. The biggest problem is the furniture doesn't fit the room but that is a whole other issue and there is no talking the husband into changing it at this point.

    nosoccermom, those are beautiful panels!

teacats, I love the PB drapes. Gee, I love almost anything that is PB or Ballard's. And that was the vision I had for the room--PB and Ballard's inspired.

jterrilynn, those drapes are lovely! Thank you for the mock up. It is hard to envision what things will look like together and putting them all together like that is a huge help.

I am currently on the hunt for new lamps, too.

One more question, do those that appreciate the artwork already there think that there should be something else added onto the wall for balance or whould I add some type of shelving or plants in the corners of that wall?

Here is the long wall with the couch, ignore the mess. There is a lot of wasted space in the corners. I was thinking perhaps I could use bookcases or shelves to fill in that area and allow storage and display areas. Like these:

    or these:

or should I just stick a plant in a corners and call it a day?

This is the long wall . . .

This is just my opinion but I am more minimalistic as opposed to clutter. I would take down those iron sculptures. With the picture over the couch and the side tables with lamps the picture is nicely framed and it looks nice. (I think).

Those corner display units are kinda neat looking. DO you have a coffee table?

I wouldn't do those corner shelves. They are kinda yesterday but not old enough yesterday to be cool. I think if I were you I would put my thought into a future sofa and chairs. You might find that you want more seating or new-ish seating and that the need to fill every corner of the room will not be there. You mentioned you wanted a new sofa but husband was not yet in that mindset. Could you be trying to pacify yourself with other un-necessaries?

You might be able to mix a pattern like this, even in the red. The closeup on the fabric doesn't look so hot so who knows what it looks like in person but something like this would give you pattern and sort of picks up on the shapes in your rug. People seem to like JCP curtains.

I would just not put anything up in the windows. What a waste of money and effort, there is plenty to keep the eye busy in there.
