The Evolution of a Living Room (pics inside)

Has anyone else's decorating style completely changed? I used to love warm colors and hated the look of clinical white walls. Now? Don't like colored walls and love the starkness of white. Who knew? I'm also CRAZY about the mismatched look of different patterns and textures in one room. My living room has probably seen the biggest transformation.

Look One: In my warm colors stage. Lived with this look for about 3 years until I realized it did not reflect my personality.

To shake things up, I decided to paint an accent wall...orange (shudder). Did not work and really underlined my new aversion to warm colors.

Here's my room today. I LOVE it! Have some things to finish (mainly accent pillows, wall art/mirror) and really want to switch my couch to something with a fabric with more modern lines. For now, I'm loving the various patterns and prints.

Enjoyed the pictures! Changing up a look can be really energizing. Where did you get the Tiffany style lamp?

I have done that too! I once loved dark, reds, black and browns, heavy furniture. Now I love light and fresh rooms. Your house looks awesome!

I like everything but the rug. Not sure it works with the rest of the room, but that may just be my personal taste. You have to make the room the way you need it to make you smile when you walk in

This is really interesting- I actually like all the incarnations of your living room. And, while I was just browsing, when I saw the last photo of the current room, I really like that- and noticed that the rug really made a statement but in a GOOD way. The rug is not typically my taste, and I don't think I would have chosen it, but I actually thought it was GREAT in your room.
So, there you have it. Totally subjective and everyoe has a different opinion:)

rian, I got the lamps (I have 2 of them) on eBay about 6 years ago. Really love them and they give me the look I want for a cheap price (they were $75/each).

kkaymorgan/sheilaaus122, the rug is actually my favorite thing in the room! LOL I'm crazy about animal prints and the first thing I envisioned when I wanted to change up the room was a zebra print rug. Because we're a lounging sort of family, I went with a shag rug. I *really* love it, but can appreciate that it's not for everyone. :-)
