My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

While the Cat's Away...the Lower Cabinets are Installed (pics)

While we were in our 1st week of installing our cabinets I found out I needed to make a business trip to the UK. Ugh! I have been planning this kitchen for 2 years and now it would have to go on hold for 2 weekends while I was away. Well, little did I know that DP would install all the lower cabinets including the pull outs, the kitchen sink, DW and the island. (Oh, and all the under cabinet lighting too!) What a shock to start receiving the email updates with pictures right after I landed in London. Yes, I was jealous that I could not work on them myself, but I was also so excited to see the changes as they occurred.

It is starting to look better then I imagined. While we were putting the front side of the island together Sunday we discovered that the 1/2 spindles we thought we ordered were actually full spindles. After some discussion and laying out of mock-ups, we were able to come up with an even better looking island than I had planned. We built little boxes for the spindles to sit on and brought the baseboard out arounpd them. Now they look like they were built into the island to begin with. I cannot take credit for the final idea, but I am so glad we did it on our own!

Quick Details:

Kraftmaid Holace Cherry Square doors with the Kaffe stain and all plywood construction. We are doing the demo and install ourselves.

    What's a DP? Dear Person?

    I have room to island-ize my peninsula and have been trying to figure out how. I appreciate the idea! I have spindles that are whole, but they're flat-ish. Can't wait to try.

    Imagine, you might come home to a home cooked meal. :)

    It looks soooo nice. Great job on the island too. I really like the window over your sink.

    Last night we had to move the island a few inches away from the cooktop. I realized the night before that in its present position we would not be able to take out the refrigerator if/when it dies. The island was already nailed to the floor. It was 'fun' to have to rock it back and forth to loosen the nails and then balance it while we removed them. Sigh, I guess it is better to move it now than realize it after the granite is installed!

    It is amazing what you don't see until you see it in 3D. Yes, definitely better now than later.

    boschboy could you tell me the aisle width between your island and sink cabinet run? My kitchen looks to be about the same width and I'm trying to figure out if I have enough room for an island. Please and thank you.

    The distance between the island and sink is 36 1/2" and there are 41" between the island and the cabinets on the opposite side. I kept that a little wider as the granite will take away 3" total and I need at least 36" to move the fridge.
