Electric knife??

Unless there is some WAY COOL use for an electric knife that I've totally missed, I'm getting rid of mine today and reclaiming that space in the kitchen drawer.

What's your opinion??

I keep mine in the garage for the once in awhile times I use it. Wouldn't be without it and it doesn't take up much room.

We were just wishing we had one as we sliced our Christmas ham by hand!

Also they are really good for cutting thick foam (as seen on decorating shows).

"It doesn't take up much room" is a killer for me, because multiplied by 100's of items, it takes up a LOT of room!

Thanks for the reminder about cutting foam, which is probably why I saved the knife after the last major de-clutter... even though I've never cut foam in my life and don't know why I would, LOL.

P.S. We almost always get spiral sliced ham now, which is why we haven't used the knife in a million years.

I've never had one. I remember my mom using one once and it was a pain to take the blades apart to clean. I'm sure her's is still buried in her basement somewhere.

Ours comes out for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I wouldn't want to carve a turkey without it. I have enough space to store it, so for me it would be a keeper.

Ours is easy to clean, or so I remember. We've carved turkey for years now without bothering to get the electric knife out of the drawer -- or maybe that's because the turkey has been falling off the bone since we started using cooking bags? LOL

I use our electric knife all the time for slicing meats --- so it really has become a valuable kitchen tool!!! And I can finally carve a straight slice from a roast!!! (and I'm proud of that feat!!))

BUT --- so you know ----- electric knives are the BEST for slicing through furniture-type foam --- if you ever re-do chair or chair seats etc.

    LOL!!!!

We just got one from my MIL, so I guess I will see if I like it. I had a second hand one years ago that I never used and finally got rid of. This certainly wasn't anything I would every have purchased, but maybe I will end up liking it? I DO sometimes re-upholster simple chairs, ottomans, etc. so it could be useful for that I suppose. I guess I have to at least keep it for the customary length of time MIL gifts must be kept! LOL!

The more I think of it, the more I think mine needs to go.

And what is the customary length of time for keeping MIL gifts? I only have a step-MIL and she doesn't give gifts, so I have no experience with this. LOL

    WAVE GOODBYE!

The electric knife, and 2 garbage bags of Tupperware, have been delivered to the Salvation Army.

    Woo-hoo!!!!

I can't imagine not having an electric knife. It's great for slicing ham, turkey, and roasts and the very best for slicing homemade bread.

A friend has one and loves it. Was thinking of getting one....

Sounds like the pros outweigh the cons.

    To each their own.

We got an electric knife a couple of years ago. DH loves it. He always hated the "honor" of carving the turkey. Now he zips thru the job. Yes,the knife is a little bulky to store, but I made a storage place for it in my dining room cabinet. You know the saying "A place for everything..." Well,if you really can't find a place for it, and don't like using it, throw it out. Or better yet, post it here or on the Kitchen Forum as a White Elephant Giveaway. I am sure you'll find interested people.
