I would suggest using the stronger solution of safe and simple; letting it set for a few minutes and then try removing. If it is stuck on that much use # 826 for stronger adhesives. www.safeandsimple.com

1. after removed and cleaned really good use gardz to seal your drywall, make your repairs, sand smooth, dust really good, prime entire surface with zinsser's 123 or you can use the gardz again as your primer (if you are not using a deep base color) and then paint 2 finish coats allowing sufficient dry times for all of the above.

I would recommend using a 50/50 mixture of HOT water and Wisk. Use a garden sprayer. Spray it on the wall (remember, the water should be as HOT as you can get it out of the tap), then use the thinnest plastic dropcloths you can buy and cover the area with that. It will hold up by itself if you just smoosh it down against the wall. Wait 15 minutes and see if the wallpaper paste then easily washes or scrapes off. If not, wait another fifteen minutes.

Okay, so after Diffing the heck out of it, I scraped pretty much all of the paste off. The trick was to spray the Diff, let it sit, then spray some more, let that sit . . . and repeat that process, letting the Dif sit for at least 45 minutes, going in small increments. It took a full week of evenings after work.

I bought a shellac-based sealant/primer and painted that over everything. I then filled in obvious gaping wounds with drywall filler, let that dry, painted on a heavy duty primer and then painted.

Of course, it's only been three weeks, but the paint job looks marvelous and I think it's going to be okay. Thanks for the advice.
