I think what I'd do is go up to the top of top jam of the door, then add a trim of marble about 1/2 the width of your marble now at the top of the door jam and windows, then paint the remaining wall space a nice accent color between it and the marble crown.

Either than, or I'd do the whole wall in the marble tile.

Maybe it is just the photo but I do not think the top of door and top of windows are even so I would leave it as is and just add your crown.

I agree with lyban...stop where it is now. I think this is a case where less is more.

I can't take it up to the top of the door/window casing because the because the shower door is framed taller on the other side of the tub area. I'll see if I have a picture.
It seems a bit 'squatty' to stop the tile as it is now, and it seems that it should be at least 2/3's of the way up the wall to look better. But then it looks odd because of the window sash.
The shower door was to have a transom so we framed it higher.

I'm no expert on vintage homes, but I think it looks great where it is. Beautiful room, by the way.

I like it where it is now, but if you want to go a little higher (including the marble top rail - is that what you're calling crown?), I'd do it same height as top of the shower niches since those are framed in marble. It would be overkill to go any higher.

I'd leave it as it is.

One or two more rows....I don't like that it stops even with the the middle of the window and think it will look better offset a bit.

If I'm counting correctly most of you like the tile as it is now or maybe add a row.
We decided to wait to finish because we have to change the drains for the sinks on the opposite wall before we tile under the sinks (metal console - Gramercy RH) We started tiling the first floor bath yesterday.
My DH and son like the tile as it is now also. I've been the one obsessing over this; and every other detail in this house... which led me to throw it out to you my GW authorities!

IMHO the tile in the bath is so different then the tile in the room, I would want to make sure it looks intentional by having very different heights.

well we did finish the marble tile yesterday. It is one row higher plus the top rail. So about 8 inches higher and looks better to us.
ajsmama brought up a good point about the niches in the shower. So when we looked at it with fresh eyes thanks to all of you we went up higher.
The alcove looks quite vintage now and that was the goal.

I love the idea of you lining it up with the shower niches. You have a gorgeous bath there. With such a beautiful home you have to be a little OCD. :-)

Just saw this, but I was going to say one row plus the crown Glad you have it done and like it better. That's the most important thing.

That photo looks so cold. We have trees blooming, but had ice on them earlier this week. Crazy weather.

Thank you for the kind comments on our MBath. No current pics, I have not done the grout yet. We are waiting for the plumber to move the drain pipes on the sink wall so we can finish the marble tile.
I am moving the tub into place over this coming weekend just because I have to see how it looks...maybe I'll take a picture then.
We started the tile in the downstairs powder room yesterday.
All white subway, much faster install. Maybe we'll move in this year!!
