I'm sure this topic has been explored before but I wanted to add my story. On Wednesday night I was sitting in my fav chair doing some sewing. My beloved cat Marley was laying on my lap asleep. I dozed off and woke up to find Marley frantically shaking his head with the thread coming out of his mouth. I panicked, grabbed the thread and pulled. It came out but the needle was gone with most of the thread. Marley jumped off my lap and went upstairs with me in pursuit. I found him laying on my bed in his favourite spot. He seemed very relieved and relaxed just like his usual self. I tried to convince myself that the needle had fallen safely out. I went online and every site I found told me to take him to the vet right away. I again observed him and although he still seemed very mellow I found a little blob of clear bile or mucus and I thought- this is not good! We took him to the vet right away and sure enough he had the needle lodged in his throat with the thread. It cost us over $500 but it was worth every penny. My point of this story is sometimes you can't go by your pet's behaviour as to whether he needs to go to the vet or not. I still can't understand why Marley seemed so relaxed with that needle stuck in his throat. I am very grateful that other reader's took the time to write in with their experiences. I've learned my lesson and completely re-done my sewing area making it as cat-safe as possible.
