Quarterback running dogfighting ring!

Quarterback of Atlanta Falcons, Michael Vick was just indicted for dogfighting. Descriptions are sickening as they ALWAYS are. Does anyone have any idea of places (email, etc.) where we may write to help nail this evil man? Set a precedent I say! Make his punishment be equally horrendous to his crime and as equally painful.....and maybe others will think twice?

Being as he is famous and rich don't expect too much to happen to him. Somehow it will be blamed on "friends" of his who were using his home "without his knowledge", or some such.

Dog fighting is disgusting, people who are involved in it are disgusting, but I don't think he will take the brunt of the blame no matter what we do.

Well, my family, friends, etc. WILL convict him (so to speak) after I harp on and on and on about it - I will see to it!!! I am also emailing the Falcons, and the networks.

I really hope they hear you. If you have the Falcon's email address, post it so we can all say something. Also if you get the NFL's public relations email address, I'd send one there also. Keep us posted.

Don't have the Falcons public relations email address yet, but here are a few networks (THE media!) that I sent off a note to. If these are not correct, would someone please correct? I am usually so mild spoken, I can't believe I'm screaming all over the place, internet included!!! That's how horrified I am.

We already know he's a low life from his drug smuggling attempt a few months ago at MIA though

The football quarterback was selected for his task by being one of the most physical and aggressive from his school, not for his sensitivity or knowledge or any other subject.

I cannot be surprised a full-contact athlete enjoys and supports sports that involve violence.

It is good to censure him and discourage others from similar behavior.

He doesn't bother me like the ones who pay money to see it. What are they doing about the spectators? The whole thing makes me sick.

I could go on and on, but I am preaching to the choir.

I barely saw something about it on TV last night, and it really bothered me. What are they going to do? Arrest one guy, kill the dogs, and do nothing to those who wanted to watch. SICK!!!

Here's the Humane Society of the US article and suggested actions. There is a link to the NFL commissioner to register your request that Vick be suspended. That may appear presumptuous of guilt, but sports figures indicated for other types of crimes are suspended until the case is concluded.

Here is a link that might be useful: HSUS article & links

Michael Vick is from our area so we have been watching this unfold since the beginning. It's on the news daily here and just gets worse and worse. Initially, when they raided his home, he had extended family living there and of course the brunt of the blame was placed on the family, stating Vick was seldom at home due to his football career. From what I have seen, he quickly tried to sell the home, and almost sold it for much less than it's value. Maybe in the hopes that it would somehow impede investigation? That's just speculation on my part.

Michael and his brother Marcus have both been in and out of trouble since they began their college football careers. They both have a nice long rap sheets and both attended Virginia Tech and the news constantly reported their problems. Their mother seems like such a sweet dear lady. Don't know what Marcus is up to these days because all you see on the news is about Michael. Wouldn't surprise me to see them soon charge Marcus as well, though.

This whole thing is beyond abhorant. But the practice of letting these guys get away with almost anything, just because "they play ball real good" has been going on for a long time. Most of these jerks got their start in collage sports, paid for by tax payers, there, they get away with any thing, and are treated like gods, again, because "they play ball real good" and never get any real education. By the time they get in the pros, they get paid rediculous saleries and think they are way above the law. This piece of sh!t, Vick, and anyone else linked to this activity, should be imediatly executed. As you can tell by my views and probably bad spelling, I am furious.

My husband was just watching Sports Center (or one of the shows just like it on ESPN) and they said that Nike is not going to market Micheal Vick's new shoe. Thought you all might like to know that Nike is responding to this.

Thanks for the link, Cynthia. I sent a very pointed email.

To make you even sicker, if that is possible: (long and convoluted, but...)

" Contract details for Michael Vick:

Signed by Falcons to a six-year contract worth $62 million on May 9, 2001. Vick will receive $15.3 million in guaranteed money over the first three years of the deal. An initial signing bonus of $3 million and a base salary of $2 million will give him a cap figure of $2.5 million in 2001.

In 2002, his base salary is $2.5 million, followed by $3 million (2003), $3.5 million (2004), $4 million (2005) and $4.5 million (2006). That makes the deal intitally worth $22.5 million over six years. But the team has the option to add two additional years to the contract through March 10, 2002 by paying $8 million.

In 2007, his base salary will be $3.4 million and $3.9 million in 2008. This option also reduces each base salary from 2002-06 by $1.6 million, making them $900,000 (2002), $1.4 million (2003), etc. This will allow Vick's salary cap figures to reduce from $3 million to $2.543 million in 2002, $3.5 million to $3.043 million in 2003, and $4 million to $3.543 million in 2004.

Also in the contract, Vick's base salary for 2004 can be accelerated to $5 million if certain performance marks are achieved. Also if other marks are achieved prior to 2005, Vick's contract voids after the 2004 season. If these marks are achieved, the Falcons have the option to reinstate years 2005-08 with a $5 million payment. If this payment is made, his base salary in 2005 increases to $4.5 million, and $5.5 million in 2006, $6.5 million in 2007, and $7.5 million in 2008.

That means that his cap numbers for those years will become approximately $7.4 million (2005), $8.4 million (2006), $9.4 million ($2007), and $10.4 million (2008). Also this $5 million payment will allow the contract to be voided after 2006 ...

Due to him making the Pro Bowl in 2002, his base salary increased to $2 million in 2003, and he received a $1.5 million bonus ... Due to him making the Pro Bowl in 2004, his contract was set to void following that season ...

The Falcons signed him to a ten-year contract on December 23, 2004. The deal is worth $130 million and includes signing bonuses that total $37 million. The deal extends Vick's rookie contract by six seasons. Base salaries for his new contract are: $600,000 (2005); $1.4 million (2006); $6 million (2007); $7 milllion (2008); $9 million (2009); $10.5 million (2010); $13.5 million (2011); $13 million (2012); $15 million (2013); and $17 million (2014).

He received an initial signing bonus of $7.5 million. Vick also received two roster bonuses in the new deal. The first is worth $22.5 million and is due in March 2005. The second is worth $7 million and is due in March 2006. Both roster bonuses will be treated as signing bonuses and prorated annually.

Because 2011 is an uncapped year (the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement expires after the 2010 season), the initial signing bonus and 2005 roster bonus can only be prorated over the first 6 years of the contract. If the CBA is extended prior to March 2006, then the second roster bonus of $7 million can be prorated over the final 9 seasons of the contract.

    Until then, Vick's cap hits are as follows: $5.6 million (2005); $7.8 million (2006); $12.4 million (2007); $13.4 million (2008); $15.4 million (2009); $16.9 million (2010); $13.5 million (2011); $13 million (2012); $15 million (2013); and $17 million (2014). If the CBA is extended prior to March 2006, then his cap hits will change to (rounded to nearest thousand): $7.178 million (2006); $11.778 million (2007); $12.778 million (2008); $14.778 million (2009); $16.278 million (2010); $14.278 million (2011); $13.778 million (2012); $15.778 million (2013); and $17.778 million (2014)."

In my email to the Falcons, in addition to suggesting Vick be fired, I urged that even 1/100th of his salary be donated to HSUS or a local dog rescue.

And, good for Nike. Even though it is based in their own financial interest to drop him, it still sends a message to the kids that idolize this miserable excuse for a human being.

A real good idea. Jail time AND and huge fine in the millions and millions to give to the HSUS..For someone like me who picks a spider off the floor and releases outside, it is beyond my comprehension how people can be so evil. I hope with all my heart that the publicity is so overwhelming that his carreer is over and he can go back to being the common street thug and punk he already is.

Ya, now the Falcons are telling Vick not to come to training camp and he has a 4 game suspension. To me it is just a slap on the wrist. I'm sure they think people will forget and go on to other things. If this piece of crap is not sent to prison for his horrible, horrible actions, the team will let him play again. They must be pretty hard up for ball jockys to have to use this sub-human.He should be fired and in my opinion, turn the dogs on him.

Sammy - you are so right to bring up the point of the people who watch this kind of cr*p as entertainment. It's a matter of simple economics - supply and demand. Vick will get his job back eventually because people will pay to see him play. Dog fighting will continue to be a big business because people will pay to watch it (not to mention the betting). It's wrong on so many levels, I don't know where to begin, but I do know that when a demand dries up, so does the supply. So, Atlanta fans can end Vick's career with simply not buying tickets and dog fighting will end when the sickos find another form of entertainment. Until then, and unfortunately, when one dog fight training operation is stopped another takes its place.

Dotmom, I couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately our culture worships athletes and stars and is fascinated by violence.

The whole rap culture thing is tied up with dog-fighting as well as violence against humans and still we allow our children to listen to that garbage and emulate rappers' speech and dress. What you said about colleges is so true and so unfair to kids who work hard in school. And our star-adoration is the reason we have these little witches prancing around thinking they can drink and drive, take illegal drugs, and neglect/endanger their children with no consequences. Even cable news, which used to be a serious source of information, has become a combo of People magazine and the National Enquirer all because the public is so hungry to hear about these slobs. It's enough to make you sick.

I'm so glad this happened with Vick to call attention to the horrific realities of the dog-fighting world. Unfortunately, I don't think much will change in our society until the American people say enough is enough and start saying no to all kinds of violence and stop worshipping fame.

Deb18 I don't know your age, but I'm 71 and have seen a lot of changes in the world. What you said about kids emulating (c)rappers, thugs and gangsters and calling it "cool" is so true, also the so-called news shows being just another enquirer rag. Untill parents start being parents again and not try to be friends or try to be 'hip' I don't see any chance of change, I 'm sorry to say. Yes, unless this sub-neaderthal,Vick, is sent to prison, the team will play him again, and he will probably just set up his dog fighting business somewhere else. Guess I'm longing for a time when you could tell the good guys from the bad guys, by the color of their hat.

Do you ever wonder about where these people are? Whatever the number of child molesters and pedifiles, it is huge. Then there are those who create or look at porn on their computers. Also are these men who enjoy dog fights. There are people who don't like their dogs, and force them out of the car in someone's neighborhood.

In every city are prostitutes and nude shows. They make money because people pay them. (Maybe the men who pay prostitutes are in our neighborhood.)

This is the tip of the iceberg. These people are not even considered criminals, but there are criminals too.

Where do all these people live, and if they have kids, were they in school with my kids?

You know, Dotmom, I am up there too, and years ago there were funny uncles. The people were just as bad, but we did n't recognize their evil because they went to church.

I have been teaching school for much of my life, and I think about these things when I look at my students. I wonder about how their value system is different from mine, and what I can do about it.

I'm going to bed. These are just a few of my thoughts.

A lot of the parents take the kids to watch the fights. Breeding another generation.

Oklahoma was one of the last 2 states that allowed cock fighting. We got to vote on it to make it illegal. They still can't seem to stop it.

    Ignorance breeds ignorance
    Neuter Mike Vick

I'm wondering if anyone here can make a case for his defense... beyond "innocent until proven guilty".
Since his first claims of the dogs belonging to family members, I haven't heard anything in his defense. Anyone? Maybe his lawyers are just keeping quiet.

Dotmom, I'm right up there with you and agree on everything you wrote...I haven't been able to watch any of the news, with the pictures etc., they make me physically ill....I'm a huge football fan, and I've thought all along, these "super stars" are paid way too much money. And if Atlanta allows this slimball to play, they're just as bad as he is...It would be great if all the Falcon fans would get together and voice their dissatisfaction and keep this guy off the field...Throw his sorry a$$ in jail and throw away the key....My blood pressure is high to begin with and it rises every time I think of those poor dogs....
Where can you get those T-shirts????
