Puppy Food Recommendation

I am looking for recommendations for food for a toy breed puppy. I am currently feeding Eukanuba Puppy Food for Toy Breeds and have discovered that the third and fourth ingredients are both grain based. Does anybody have a recommendation for a good food for my puppy? Thanks

If you have a good local pet food store near you, go in and look at what is on the bags. Avoid Corn, wheat and by products - there are so many good pet food products out there - it can be hard to choose.
When my dog was little I go Trader Joes canned dog food and mixed it with Natural Balance....good luck - PS what kind of pup did you get??? Have photos to share?

Natural Balance is good for all life stages, including puppies. It is one of my favorite foods. I feed my own dogs Eagle Pack Holistic Select; I believe they have a puppy formula as well.

Grains are not necessarily bad unless the dog has allergies to them. Dogs are omnivores like humans, so there isn't anything inherently wrong with grains.

I avoid artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives, soy products, and anything not specific (animal fat is a popular one).

And I second the picture request!

Thanks for the info and recommendations. Carmelita doesn't seem that crazy about the Eukanuba, but she is a Havanese and being a picky eater is common to the breed. She is a cutie. She is 10-1/2 weeks old. She loves to play with her brother, Fred - a miniature schnauzer. He is a very good big brother!!

Well that just melted my heart. Alls she would have to do is shoot me a look like that and I'd have ground filet mignon on her plate. LOL. She would be spoilt so rotten, you'd have to have the dog whisperer visit to intervene.

calliope, I'm pretty sure that is the direction we are heading!! LOL I'm trying really hard to treat her like a regular dog, but one look and I'm gone!! This morning I ground up a little bit of Milk Bone biscuit and added it to the Eukanuba. That got her to eat more than she has before. She had been free fed before I got her, but I don't want to do that because of the other dog. Here are a couple more pictures of my girl.

Absolutely adorable fur baby. We have 4 year old Yorkie who has been eating Eagle Pack Holistic Select since we got her. Her fur and skin are great.

I was just on the naturapet website. I don't have a toy breed, but I feed Cali Natural to a large allergy prone dog. I just went to check out their site for an ingredient list and saw they have a new food that is grain--free which I am going to check out for sure.

It's naturapet.com.. and the food is California Natural. The new one is grain-free. It is not an inexpensive food for sure, but for 9 years I've been unable to switch him to anything else with any success. The coupon on the site is for $7 off a bag.

Just a follow up and a thank you to all for your help. I went with the Holistic Select and Carmelita is doing really well on it. I especially like that I can use it as her treat when I am working with her to "sit", "down" and "come". She started puppy class last night and she did pretty well. There are five dogs in the class and three are fairly small and two are a little larger and are barkers. I'm hoping the barking will subside once they all get used to each other. She was one tired pup after all that excitement, so no problems sleeping all night last night!!

    Thanks again.
