So today I was at a birthday party, there was about 30-40 people there. A mixed crowd of elderly, middle age and young'uns.

A friend of a friend of a friend, who I didn't know, showed up with a young irish setter. Maybe 10-11 months old...

Anyway the dog wasn't leash trained, and very nearly knocked the owner over several times. And then she handed the leash to a pre-teen child, that was then drug along the grass by the dog.

In order to prevent anyone from getting hurt, namely the child already laying on the ground, I went over took the leash and took control of the dog. I made him walk nicely. I sat him when he pulled. I held the leash for maybe 5 minutes, just enough to get him to calm down.

When I handed the leash back to the owner, she kind of chided me, for taking care of her bad dog. I said, "He's not a bad dog, in fact he's quite a good dog."

So THEN, after a bit, she showed everyone all of the wonderful tricks she has taught this dog.... hand shake, high five, roll over, etc.

I was a bit disappointed that she had taught this dog all of the fun stuff, but hadn't bothered to teach the dog how to walk nicely on a leash. Stuff like that really makes me grumpy sometimes....and maybe a bit judgmental.
