Finally ordered a dining room table!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous post. After looking at what seems like every round table on the planet, we ordered from Stickley through a local, family-owned store that aggressively discounts and worked hard for the sale.

I had just about given up on finding anything because the inexpensive tables looked cheap next to our chairs and the higher-end tables made our chairs look cheap. We looked at a Stickley table but wrote it off based on stain samples. Then, the owner stepped in - she looked at my chair, knew exactly what stain would match, and directed us to a Stickley sideboard in the same color. We pulled our chair over and it was amazingly close. In fact, they're going to send a small drawer with our order to ensure a match and avoid an up-charge for a custom color. Just goes to show what a difference a salesperson can make, and the importance of seeing actual furniture vs. samples! Given our color problems, she also recommended that we avoid the contrasting border, which can be hard to predict, and suggested a decorative edge instead.

So now, we wait. And look at rugs!

I meant to add that the table we ordered was not my favorite out of everything we saw, but was the best match to our chairs and within our budget. Sometimes you just gotta compromise.

goldgirl, it is a handsome table and I think with the right accessories on top and a gorgeous carpet underneath it's going to make quite a statement. Looking at it solo versus having chairs around it will also make a big difference.

I think it is perfect with your room and the table! Did you really haul a chair around with you? Great idea!
Can't wait to see it in place!

Nice to hear you had such a positive experience with the local store. That's just the way it should go, and the only way buying local will survive. Good for you and good for them!

I think it was also brilliant to find something that would balance the equation. Will look forward to seeing pics. How long do you have to wait?

amysrq - 12 weeks, I believe they said. That's okay, it spreads out the final payment ;)

I agree about local stores and really prefer buying that way - I'll gladly pay a reasonable amount more for service and peace-of-mind. We visited a number of stores within an hour of our home but these folks knew their stuff, had the best prices and were fun to deal with.

I did check N.C. for a couple of tables I couldn't find locally but wouldn't have been comfortable doing the lost-distance thing given our need to "match" chairs.

Keeping my fingers crossed it all works.
