Dishwasher advice

My new cabinets are marshmallow cream (off white) with dark granite countertops. Would you go with a stainless steel, faux stainless, or white? Also, any opinion on hidden controls or exposed controls.

From what consumer reports says Bosch, Kenmore, and Whirlpool have the best reliability. They also said a stainless interior doesn't clean any better I don't need to go cheapest and don't need bells and whistles so thought I'd try to stay in the $500-600 range. If anyone has any feedback, I'd appreciate it.

As for the "looks" of a dishwasher in your kitchen, In my opinion, going with white would be a mistake with white or off white cabinets. I don't think they ever look "right" together. I would either panel it, or go with stainless.

To see example kitchens with white cabinets/white appliances do a Search in Google Images. It always amazes me how much there is to see.

As for brands...We bought a TOP of the line Whirlpool dishwasher a few years back. It has NEVER dried a dish since we've owned it. Numerous repair calls, BS from the manufacturer trying to blame it on rinse aid (which we used), on Energy Star requirements, on the phase of the moon. If you like unloading dripping flatware, then Whirlpool is a good bet. We realized after living with the moderately-priced, fails-to-dry Whirlpool, that in our home the dishwasher gets used more than any other appliance. The machine we chose to replace it in the remodel: Miele

Are you getting Starmark or Fieldstone cabinets? I have Starmark cabinets in Marshmallow Cream and fell in love with the color the minute I saw it. I don't think white appliances would look good with that color.

I looked at Bosch dishwashers but my dishes didn't fit well. A great suggestion I got from this forum was to bring my dishes to the store to see if they would fit. While the rest of my appliances are solidly middle of the road, purchased a stainless Miele dishwasher because I was tired of having dishes come out of my old dishwasher dirty if I didn't pre-wash.

What color will your other appliances be? Unless you panel the DW, I like appliances to be all the same color...looks less hodge-podge. Our Bosch 800 is about 8 weeks old....seems to clean well, but I am experiencing some odor problems mentioned here. Love the look of hidden controls.

Miele is a great dw. Don't buy it unless it can be serviced by someone locally.

That was the mistake I made.

I have a Fisher & Paykel dishdrawer in ss that I really like.

I would not do white if I were you.

I kept my old dishwasher for now, but I can tell you that My DD purchased an LG stainless steel dishwasher about 9 months ago and we all really like it. It is the most beautiful dishwasher I have ever seen, and the hidden controlls are elegant. It cleans and dries the dishes perfectly. She has two young children and does not rinse the dishes before loading them. She got it on sale, and the cost to have it delivered and then installed by a contractor was under $1,000. Good luck with your new kitchen.

We have a Bosch and love it. It cleans our dishes beautifully and is whisper quiet. I bet it is much more efficient than our old dw, even if you don't count the having to wash dishes when they came out of the old one, lol.

We use the energy saver cycle and open it when done to let the plastic stuff air dry. I don't want to waste energy on drying dishes when the air is able to do the trick simply. It was partly why we made sure we had wide aisles so that it is easy to walk around the open door when it is drying.

I have the Kenmore elite with the hidden controls and SS inside. It cleans great, I use the light cycle for every day use, the SS inside looks very nice too. The only problem is you must use a dry aid, I use vinegar since I used up the sample that came with it, but if I don't realize it's used up the dishes will be very wet. The hidden controls don't bother me. I purchased DW in Aug. before updating my kitchen and it's in black, which looks fine with my new off white cabinets, but since all other appliences are SS I plan on purchasing the SS front for ($125 as a part). I think the faux fronts are great, I have it on my refrigerator, during the summer this diswasher didn't come with a faux but if it does now I would purchase it that way.

The Marshmallow Cream is from Starmark Cabinetry with the "Bridgeport" door style. It definitely isn't "white white" but it is quite light. I definitely want a stainless steel stove and microwave but was thinking that the dishwasher isn't really a focal point and the white would kind of just blend in with the cabinets. However, I could just jump on the stainless bandwagon for everything.

I'll definitely look at more pics but it is hard to get the subtleties of the shades of white from pictures. I'm doing some bolder things in the kitchen like making the island a Chestnut cherry with a Black Miranace granite counter (which is a riverbed rock pattern). Also some of the upper cabinet doors will be cut for glass with some yet-to be determined homemade stained glass design.

    Thanks everyone.
