LR ceiling paint test patch!!!!

I finally finished removing all that LR ceiling wallpaper, and I've been priming the ceiling. I got the paint today and I couldn't resist making a test patch around the 1920's pan light. I'm SO EXCITED to be finally painting. I still have a couple cracks that I'm working on by the fireplace and a few other little issues to fix, but I'll be done in a couple more days.

We'll be temporarily taking down the pan light to rewire, and at that time I'll remove the old, slopped paint on the cone:

We have 3 of the walls painted (one still needs plaster repair or drywall):

Here is the fireplace and trim color:

Still much to do before the room can be considered 'finished,' but getting the ceiling addressed marks a definite turning point.

WOW! It's gorgeous! Love your light fixtures and the paint color is so warm and creamy-- it brings out the woodwork and the antique light fixtures beautifully.

Can't wait to see it finished!

Gorgeous! Great paint, great fixture, love the woodwork. Kudoes for doing the work on the old house. I just keep throwing paint on our old walls and never quite get around to patching the million and one cracks and holes.

    Keep posting pictures.

    What a pretty room.

Now would you be insulted if I told you about a source for lightbulbs for that fixture? I have this fixture

...and had to do a bit of searching...but if I've just insulted you (and you love those) Never mind!!!! :o) (I love the space!!!!)

Bless your heart! I know you're thrilled to be done with the wallpaper removal! The paint looks great, too. I like the color--and I love the light fixture.

Kim, I love your space and your light, your pole lamp, and your fireplace is to drool over. Those Craftsman houses are divine. I'm glad that you're painting the ceiling and it looks great.

I immediately had the same thought Igloochick did -- I know they make both the special frosted bulbs and the crystal cut look bulbs for those fixtures and I think they'd look great in your light.

Thank you everyone for your compliments! That makes all the hard work worth it!

decorpas, thank you, I can't wait to see it finished, either! I just wish I had our very first 'before' pictures I took when we moved in. Unfortunately, our hard drive died last year and we lost all those very early pics. I'll keep posting on the progress. It's so great to get feedback here.

budge 1, the prep work is the thing that's making all this take sooooo long! Underneath the wallpaper the 110 year old plaster was in pretty rough shape in many areas, but not so bad on 3 of the walls that we couldn't salvage it with some plaster washers and patching. The ceiling is not the original plaster ceiling, but was replastered in the 1920's and in doing so dropped a couple inches lower. I shudder to think what the original ceiling would look like--we got a peak at the original bedroom ceiling while doing some work in the attic this week and there are big chunks of the plaster missing. The BR also has a second ceiling made of some kind of large tiles. We decided to keep it, and I'll only have to prime and paint it--too much work to tear it out and redo the ceiling from scratch, and it's acceptable as is.

igloochic, as a matter of fact I've been looking for and wanting some champagne colored bulbs for our 2 pan lights but not having any luck. Do post a link to where I can find some! I remember your fabulous vintage light fixtures, and I'm suffering some serious light fixture envy!

graywritingdog, you should have seen it when we moved in--it was really a mess! A wood stove had been on the hearth pad and vented out a hole in the center of the firebox. The fireplace had been completely bricked in, then concrete over the bricks, and then metal lathe and plaster over all that. The plaster wasn't thick enough in some places so the metal lathe showed through. We chiseled and hammered it open again, but the edge bricks got damaged in the process, so my husband tiled the edges and I worked on repairing the plaster surround.

amcofar, you bet I'm thrilled! That was one helluva job. We ordered a wallpaper steamer for the remaining 3 rooms that still have wallpaper. The dining room is probably next, as it is connected to the LR via the arch shown above.

tishtoshnm, thank you! It's not the color I had originally thought we'd be using way back when we first moved in, but it sort of evolved later out of the yellow in the tiles. We had a dozen different yellow paint chips, and we each initialed the ones we liked. We discarded the ones that had only my or my husband's initials. Of the chips that had both our initials, we then narrowed it down to the one seen above.

Oceanna, thank you! Our house was on the market for 4 years (!) we were told, and I think the sellers painted everything a budget white paint to try to brighten it up in hopes that would make it show better--NOT! Someone slopped it on, and you can see that in the dripping and overpainting on the cone part of the pan light. As I wrote above, I definitely am looking for places to get the champagne bulbs, so if you know of anything do post on it. Those are small ceiling fan/light bulbs we have now, which replaced the regular sized, untilitarian bulbs that were in it when we moved in. Those looked really-really clunky!

Kim, I don't know where to get the fancy bulbs, but it looks like Igloochic does. I just see them all the time on those fixtures on eBay so I know they're out there. I love those types of lights.

Have you, by any chance, looked at the ceilings thread I posted in the Gallery? You might get some ideas. You might also enjoy some of the other threads there. I know I posted a few pics here and there of Craftsman decor. Yummy stuff!

You did a super job picking a paint color. It compliments your woodwork & fireplace surround so well.

Oceanna, thank you for pointing me to the great ceiling gallery! I'm toying with the idea of doing an understated A & C stencil border or something high up on the walls when we're much further down the road on this room. Someone here posted a link to A & C stencils not too long ago, so I bookmarked it.

ttodd, thank you! I mentioned above the perhaps overly democratic method my husband and I used to pick the paint color, but it seemed to work and we were both satisfied with the choice--no hurt feelings!
