I would certainly not go dark. I wish you wouldn't shy away from beige, as it's a natural complement to your cabinets and countertops. Going white seems a bit too much contrast. I'd look for a mosaic with a combination of stainless steel, beige stone, and white glass. That will keep it neutral but interesting.

Your kitchen is great. I'm having similar trouble getting a backsplash too. I started an ideabook to help me: http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/5280003/thumbs/Kitchen-backsplash and I am trying to find caramel colored ceramic subway tiles to set in a herringbone pattern. I personally don't like mosaic backsplashes with such an elegant countertop as yours as they compete for attention. So perhaps gray subway tiles would work for you also?

Me too. Either an off white or very pale beige, and very simple. But the backsplash definitely needs to be light, IMO, to offset the dark cabinets and counters. Lovely kitchen, BTW.

If you are not interested in beige or a creamy off-white, then a mosaic tile would be your best bet.

Hmm hmm, and you have one of those hoods that is crying for a design....maybe a herringbone pattern for a frame under the hood with a listello...and subway pattern for the rest.

Well, okay now that I see more of the kitchen I can scrap plan 1 and 2. Aggie posted a grey glass subway and a Lucien glass tile. Thanks for the pics Aggie. I think those are your best option. White is too stark, you definitely shouldn't go dark and have anything that's going to compete with your counter, which I love BTW.

I just want to say off the bat that your kitchen is really gorgeous! You have so many different options for a great backsplash! A stainless steel tile in a fun layout would definitely work, but would definitely make the overall look of your kitchen much more modern, which may not be something you want. Doing stainless in a more traditional pattern, like the basket weave below, could prevent it from being too contemporary. You of course can also go with something more traditional, like a white, or off white subway tile. Using a fun pattern, like herringbone as suggested above, can make something classic just a bit more unique. The mosaic below features different shades of white and gray. Also, you have enough space above your range to do a special inset! Maybe herringbone or a different fun layout above the range, and traditional subway for the rest? Just an idea! We have a custom tile designer on our website that allows you to create your very own mosaic using whatever colors you want, so if you get stuck, why not try it out and see what you come up with? It's a lot of fun and very inspiring!

A light sand colored stone would look good and soften the room
