My son has the Tagg system for his roamer. The system has alerted him when the dog leaves the home area, but there have been a few false alerts. Luckily I live close enough that when he was alerted that the dog had left the home area when he should have been resting, I went over to check on him where I found him lounging comfortably in a chair inside the house. It also lets him know how active the dog has been during the day ;-).

If you have any questions specific to the system, I'd be happy to get that info for you.

I have heard that due to the plus and minus of gps location that the occasional error can be seen if the home area is set to be very small.

Did your son consider any other systems?

I don't know which system they used, but I heard a story that some parents were using the dog tracking systems on their kids when they went hiking and camping instead of the systems designed for kids because the dog systems were better and cheaper.

Yes, some people have used the GPS trackers on kids. Also, you can track an auto on it for a day or two.

I'm now leaning toward the Marco Polo unit (non GPS) because it has no monthly fee.

The only time I would use this device is if my soon to be adopted Greyhound were to escape my grasp, slip its collar, or leap my fence. (I have never let any of my previous dogs ((English) Bulldogs) loose in the yard without me being present.
