new bathroom sink

We are installing a new vanity and sink but the drain is about 2" too short (Measuring from the wall) to match up to the drain and trap. How do I extend the pipe--any easy way? I was thinking of cutting off the old connection and puttin on a new pipe and then attaching the trap. Is that going to work?

Buy a longer drain arm. The piece that goes into the trap adapter on the downstream side of the trap.Should either be 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 nut on the adater, take the trap apart and unscrew that nut and pull the old arm out of the drain. Cut the new drain arm to length and tie it in. You can buy them in PVC tubular or brass., which ever you prefer....
