I have a chihuahua, our vet had us get ours spayed when she was 6 months old. She hadnt went into heat yet, but we have large male dogs, and didn't want to take a chance.

It's best to spay them before their first heat. I would schedule her appointment asap.

She's probably already been through one heat cycle, so getting her spayed now is best. This will reduce her chances of breast cancer from 25% to 12%, cutting the risk in half! Waiting until after her next heat cycle will give her a 25% chance of getting breast cancer, and you can't do anything to reduce those odds.
