Air in System?

I am in Dallas. Freezeguard kicked pump on last night and early this morning, I kept hearing a strange noise - like gurgling. I heard this last week too. I got up to check on it and (forgive me if I am not using all the correct words), but the pump was going crazy. Where you normally can't even see the water in the pump because it is so full, it was swirling around and making lots of noise. The pressure on the filter was also fluctuating between 10 and 20 psi. I think there was air in the system because when I turned my faucets on in the house, it spit with air (such as it does when air gets trapped - usually due to water freezing or close to freezing). It finally stopped after I ran the shower and flushed the toilet a few times? Weird. Any idea what happened and what I can do to fix it next time? (Supposed to be pretty cold here again tonight.)

Sorry for the 2 part question but maybe this relates to the above air pressure. I have a Jandy 2HP Stealth (SHPM2.0). To clean the strainer basket, is there something I need to do to relieve pressure in the system before I take the clamp/lid off? (OK, 3 parts) Where is the "air bleeder valve" on my filter - Jandy 60 DE Filter?

Thanks!
