Decorating advice from beyond?

We took a break from working on the kitchen and spent this weekend wrapping up some loose ends out front so I could start getting the porch ready for spring. Last night after we were done, I walked across the street to snap a few shots. We still need a new door, I want to try some new flowers out front, and maybe new steps, etc .. I thought pictures might help me think of what to do.

This morning after downloading the pics .. I see a 'face' in one of the windows. It can't be a reflection of me, I'm way across the street. So I blow it up and it's a 'ghost' face .. either that or I need to wash the windows. :D

Here's the pic, can you see our 'ghost' in the glass? Two eyes, nose, mouth and hair? I just wish he/she would have held up a sign saying what I should do with the porch and garden this year. *LOL* Or maybe this is a sign they want the original front door back on. ;)

I'm not saying I believe in ghosts, I've never had an 'experiances' one way or the other. We do live in an almost 100 year old house and I guess anything is possible.

Anyhow, thought the pic was neat and I'd share .. ghost .. or window smudge? :D

I'm going with ghost because we lived in a farm house built in the 1880's and while we don't "believe" in ghosts, we had 4 AM ghostly visitors starting with our re-designing projects. DH and I saw same thing-- two men standing in the doorway of the bedroom, criticizing our decorating choices in gossipy, disapproving tones. Go figure! They must have had horrible taste, because it all started when we finally painted over the lime green walls in the bedroom:-)

Totally cool! Both my Mother and I have had "close encounters" so I have to believe. I wish I had a decorating ghost!
I've had decor ideas come to me in dreams.
Either way, you have to save that picture.

    Another vote for ghost.
Before the previous owner of our home died, she had been in assisted living for a long time but still visited neighbors and got around well.
Her obituary stated, among other things, her love of living on our street. I read the obit but dh hadn't and knew nothing about it.
A couple of days later, he woke me up in the middle of the night to look at the ghost in the hall outside our bedroom door! Very strange and scary too.
It happened again the next night and we both talked to her and told her we loved her home and would take care of it and that it was time for her to let go.

Very neat stories! We lived here for quite a while and have never seen anything.

My DH called a few minutes ago and I told him about the picture. There was silence, then he asked if the face was smiling or frowning. *LOL*

Here's the original pic .. Excuse the house, it's pretty much a blank slate right now. We removed the shutters and repainted the door white until we can get there to replace it. I repainted the wicker this weekend and I still need to find seating for the other side, we need to put the window boxes back on, re-plant lawn and garden, yadda, yadda.

Maybe I'm a moron, but which part of the window are you looking at? I see what looks like someone peeking out behind the blinds toward the top left but then I also see a smudgy face in white at the middle right of the window. Do you have two ghosts, LOL?!

    And that house is GORGEOUS!!!

OK, you're creeping me out about the ghost because I do believe they are around.

Your house is very pretty. Love your porch.

    Love your house-- so charming!

At least your ghosts won't be mocking your design ideas like ours did:-) DH finally had to lay the law down with them. We started calling them Ben and Jerry (yes, like the ice cream). Ben and Jerry had to leave the house at night and sleep in the garden:-)

Could be a ghost. Beautiful house, BTW! We've had a ghost in our place since it was built fifteen years ago. Go figure, as it's a new house! At first we thought it was the spirit of an old settler or Native American who had lived in the area, although we are the first to ever build on this land of ours. About five years after it all started, I had the chance to consult with a very respected psychic, who was well known (and used) in the criminal investigation community out in Oregon, I believe. She told me that our spirit was the woman had been like a second mother to me all my life. Kay had passed on suddenly just the month before we'd moved in. She used to be here every day, but after her DH of 40 years passed away a couple of years ago, her visits stopped. Stopped that same day he died, actually. Now she visits about once or twice a month. It doesn't bother us anymore; we just smile and say, "Kay's back!"
Funny story: we don't tell many people about our ghost, as most people don't believe in them (We didn't either until Kay came to stay!). Last month, though, our DS brought his girlfriend and three good guy friends home from grad school to spend their Spring Break with us. The last night they were here, his girlfriend woke to find an old woman wandering around her bedroom. The poor thing was scared out of her wits, started hollering and the woman vanished. She didn't sleep again the rest of the night and I'm not sure that she'll ever want to sleep here again . . . at least not alone ;~P
Our son tells me she still is shaken up about it.

if you want some really expert opinions, you can go to ghostvillage.com and post it there. there are some really knowledgable people there. i definitely believe in ghosts, but am not qualified to give an opinion either way on the image. your house is beautiful!!

It might only be because I was just on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride yesterday, but I see a pirate ghost, lol. The beard, a bit of the hat...very cool, and spoooooky.

I see long hair standing up all over the place. Maybe I wandered over and peeked in your window first thing one morning. ;-)

Take a look now; I've cropped it,added more contrast and reduced the noise a bit to see any detail better.

I've cropped the pic, enlarged it to quite large and every time it comes out that small! Sorry. On my pictures, there's a lot more detail and to me it looks like an man with a halo of light around his head or a light ruff that sticks up behind his head and extends down into a collar. I'm serious . . . try it yourself!

There are several "haunted" houses at Fort Leavenworth. I have several different friends who have lived there. None of them believed the stories before they moved in, but they surely left as believers.

Sorry, looks like a smudge to me.

I see dead people. They're telling me I need to replace the couch and loveseat.

Hmmmm, maybe the groovy set renofan found on Craig's list?

Here is a link that might be useful: new furniture

Purely for the creep factor, I'm going with the thought that it is a smudge. It has to be a smudge. Yes smudge. LOL Honestly I wasn't sure until I clicked the back key on my computer and as the screen changed, I saw the head of a man with a sweater on with his shirt collar on.

Like I said, it is a smudge.........

I vote "ghost." I believe, I believe! (Hoping that if I say that none of them buggers come to my house just to be spiteful.)

OH my gosh. You have a wonderful spirit visiting or existing in your home. There is absolutely nothing creepy about what you may have discovered. Spirits are not harmful or frightening if you accept them as being around. Sounds quirky, I know. But I've been there with this sort of thing and I am not intimidated. You are fortunate to have a presence in your home. Welcome it. I would!

Kelly, you with those morgue drawers. Hmmmmmm, I'd watch it. You better put those killer dogs to work keeping an eye on them there drawers!!

Well, the smudge doesn't look like Elvis. Darn, you could've had tourists come from all over the world! LOL

I think it looks like Henry VIII or Shakespear or one of those guys who wore ruffly collars.

Woohoo! You gots a ghostie! Our old house had one, not too bad, just annoying every once in a while, and the house wasn't that old, either!

I recently saw a photograph in a Sunday supplement magazine, it was one of the entries in a photo contest. The feature of the picture was a child in front of a house, but the very first thing I saw was a white ghostie figure in the window. That is what DH saw too, when he looked at it. Weird!

I've really enjoyed reading all the cool stories and specualtion on who the 'face' looks like, thanks for sharing them all! :) I'm kind of glad it's not Elvis, I don't want to have to tell the aliens they can't have him. ;) Thanks for the ghost web site too, if I get a chance I'll post the pic over there and see what they have to say.

I showed my DH last night and he thought it was a pretty freaky picture. We went over the other pictures I snapped at the same time, the 'face' isn't in any of the others though. I figure if it is a ghost, as long as they keep to themselves, I'm fine with it. If it starts critiquing my decorating ( like Ben and Jerry ) we are going to have problems though. ;)

Also thanks so much for the kind comments about the house, it's a work in progress, but it's starting to get there.

OK - I'm a little creeped out, not to mention I have goose bumps. But...do you have screens in your windows? It could just be the light reflecting off the screen. I can rationalize anything, but if anything else unexplainable happens, then I'd vote for "ghost."

    EEEEEKKK!

I vote ghost...we have a crazy one and I sometimes find myself talking to her...now who is crazy????? :^)

I vote ghost and I'm pretty sure he's mouthing the words "red fridge, red fridge".

I vote window smudge! I have had several scary encounters with that particular phenomenon in my lifetime! In fact I see several of them now, when the light catches the windows in a certain way! Creepy!

I am thinking of paying for the services of a window smudge exorcist (window cleaner) to be rid of these demons, but I suspect they will return, once the exorcist has left the house. Another chilling thing I have noticed is that my DH seems to be an attractor for these mysterious smudges, which is all the more strange, as he is the only one unable to see them!:)

lol brutuses! Didn't put that togther.

Love your house! It's a true classic. If it is a ghost I hope it's a benevolent one. :)

Before I bought my house I asked the neighbors if anyone had died there (don't we all?). I was told no. However, turns out my house, in a nice suburban neighborhood mind you, does have a rather interesting history. It was a grow house! :O

As a qualified parapsychotic, I can definitely tell you (my bill is in the mail) that your ghost is either William Shakespeare or Liberace.
My grandmother's house had an upstairs screen that, at a certain angle, looked exactly like a man leaning on the sill, looking out. EVERYBODY saw it.

Hmmmmm .. very well could be the screen reflecting the light.

Budge .. *LOL* If my 'ghost' is a red fridge enabler, it can stay! :D

Fun post to read ! ( parapsychotic *LOL* )

Hmm..in the far off pic, I see a similiar reflection in the upper part of the left window, too. Just one that doesn't look like a face.

For those of you that comment that you have a spirit but your house is new or you have a spirit and you know nobody died in your home, be aware that the land is as old as time. And spirits are often associated with the land that your homes are on, not necessarily your house. So anyone can have the experience of a ghostly presence.

annie--thanks for bringing up that point! i've repeatedly heard people say "but nobody died there". then i also remind them that we don't know what was at that location 100-200 years before.

I had never believed in this sort of thing, but several years ago BOTH of my sons, who were very young at the time, reported seeing "a lady in a pink sweater" near the Christmas tree in our house. They were both adamant about seeing her (just once each, but at two different times). It was really spooky.
