Bang, bang. They will ruin the pool.

many moons ago I had this problem with a commercial account. I told them either the ducks go or I go. They brought in an exterminator and the problem went away, I drained the pool to get rid of the fertilizer, and reset the chemistry After that they had the exterminator out immediately when new duck appeared. Now I just wish I could have gotten ride of the kids that where doing their business in the pool that easily (lighten up some of you,it's a joke).

Funny as I had 2 ducks land in our pool a few weeks ago, 2 days in a row. I shooed them out as fast as I could, they poop way too much ! A few days ago I saw them laying in the grass next to our side wall. I grabbed the hose to shoo them off and they stood up and flapped their wings, they loved the shower! Not a good thing ! I ran at them and they flew away, but I am watching for them as I sure don't want to be their new home. We just put a solar blanket on the pool this morning, so hopefully that deters them too. Barb

And a followup, those darn ducks were back in the grass yesterday afternoon. I shooed them away and they were back an hour later, Dh shooed them and they came back AGAIN last evening. At least they are not around the pool, but we are going to keep after them. Its a pair of them, anybody else with tips would be appreciated here as well. Barb

Get a dog................

I second the dog recommendation. Ever since we got a dog our bird problem has dropped significantly.

We also used to tie that metallic ribbon anywhere they liked to perch (available in the pest department at Home Depot or Lowes). The don't like the glare or glitter of the metallic in the sunlight so won't land anywhere near it.

We have a dog. It's very hot now in Arizona where we live, and our doggie [golden retriever] does not like the heat. He doesn't go out too much this time of year. We have not got him to try the pool yet. He's not quite a year old, and we will eventually get him to try the pool. We will try the metallic ribbon. Thanks; I've been frustrated as we are new at this pool/spa thing with bird poop at the spa ledge daily.

I know you called it a bridge, but I think you mean spillway. So what about putting a real bridge over the spillway? Basically you could extend the deck/coping right over the water leaving just a slot for the water.

As far as birds are concerned, I've had fewer flyover accidents on the deck when I've had something floating in the water...like a beach ball or a lounger. Maybe it was just coincidence, but might be worth a try.

I also read that (here on this forum) about filling the pool with beach balls. Birds don't like that. (Guess it scares them)

Yes, put anything inflatable in the pool. We had some ducks visiting each morning and we put an inner tube in the pool and they never came back.
