How is the tv protected from the heat generated by the fireplace when it's placed at this proximity?

It meets the minimum clearance requirements for the fireplace. Typically this is done by insetting the TV in a niche or making sure their is a mantel that meets the required overhang to direct the heat away. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR EACH BRAND OF FIREPLACES BECAUSE THEY VERY.
