First Quilt

I haven't trimmed it, but here is my first quilt, hot off the frame. I did learn several things, I work better left to right, clean the bobbin area more often than recommended, I need to work on re-starting when the bobbin thread runs out, don't quilt too near the leaders.

Congratulations Beverly! Your meandering looks very smooth. I'm impressed.

I think you are a natural. I am amazed at how even your stitches are.
Give Santa another big kiss! You are making this look so simple.

Oh, forgot to mention, stitch length regulator is my new BFF. Also, I used white thread (cause that is what they sent and said to start with), but I usually use a natural or cream that doesn't show as much. I called Santa at work and told him he did great.

That's fantastic. I'm so proud of you. wonderful work.

How is Santa going to top that next Xmas?

What a great start! No one would believe its your first. Getting the stitch regulator was a good idea!

Yes, Santa does have his work cut out for next year doesn't he. I'll come up with something. 8-)

    You did good!

Thanks everyone. I am so excited!!! I could never have done it without the stitch regulator. My hat is off to those who can. I have two more tops, then I'll have to make more. Now, what am I going to do with the 5,000 safety pins I have? Guess I can save them for table runners, don't think I will load them onto the frame.

    That looks great, Beverly!!

Well Done! Aren't stitch regulators the bomb?! Wish I had one!

You are one lucky person!! To have such a great machine and then be able to use it so well on you first try. Great job, now are you going to experiment with other designs next time or perfect what you already are doing well? TFS Jayne

WOW, Beverly! You did an awesome job on the quilting! Let me know when you're ready to go into business and I'll have Clay the Painter paint a sign for you.

Jennifer, I'll put a word in with Santa for Christmas.

Jayne, I'm going to experiment. Life needs some adventure, and perfection is so over rated.

Sharon, I may take Clay the Painter up on your offer. Gotta have flames, can he do a sewing machine with flames coming out of the needle?

Bev you are a natural! Your work is just great and would never guess this was a first. I also like the quilt design. Was this a pattern or something you just designed?

Great first quilt. Wish the first one I did looked so good.

What a beautiful "first quilt"!! What a great job; I bet you can't stop smiling!! I think "Santa" deserves a big hug and kiss - and his favorite Sunday dinner this weekend. ~LOL~

You should be very proud of yourself!!

Wow, that is an awesome first quilt! The FM is beautiful and I like how no two squares are the same! Is the stitch regulator just the stop start button, or is it something else that is special and wonderful that I should know about?

    Looks great!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Jeane, I did the meander free hand. There are patterns, but I wanted to learn to do it on my own. The quilt is what I called a "big crumb" block. Just blocks of left over fabric stitched and trimmed to 12.5 inches. Then I put a black strip on opposite sides, and white strips on the other two sides, then sewed them together. No pattern really.

Vacuumfreak, the stitch regulator has 2 sensors on the machine carrage (one for side to side, one for front to back) so the faster you move the machine, the faster it sews. That keeps your stitches even no matthe how fast (or in my case, slow) you quilt.

Bev, would you mind if I used your chunky crumb quilt block idea. I love to make scrap quilts and I do lots of string quilts, I need something different.

Jeane, help yourself. I didn't like it when I first made it, but when I pulled it back out to quilt I changed my mind. I have lots of big chunks left and think I will make another one.

Beverly...I think it is marvelous. My husband was thinking about getting me a longarm and after going round and round I told him not to waste his money. I do mostly small stuff and not much of it. Lynndianne
