hot off the machine

I just pulled this quilt for my neighbor off the machine. It's for her son, who is 22. She wanted either a large meander or and edge-to-edge pattern, so we decided on this "Swirlz" pantograph pattern, and on a multi-colored thread. The blocks are 6", the individual squares are 2", and she sliced the blocks at a 60 degree angle.

I only got two photos, because she wanted to get started on the binding asap - Philip's birthday is Jan 30th. And I only have room to photograph big quilts outside - so of course, it's raining, LOL.

I enjoyed this quilt more than I can say! Brights with black - yep, my kind of colors!

Very interesting, it would make a great scrap quilt using leaders and enders. I have a top that I made with 2.5" sqs. and sashed with the black, it's one of my ufo's at the moment. I have other blocks made which would be fun to do the angle cut. They are 12.5", do you think they would work? Did she just sq. the block using the 60 deg. angle?
I like the pattern you used to quilt and the multi-colored thread is perfect. TFS Jayne

Jayne, This quilt could be done with any sized block. This particular quilt was 6" blocks with 2" sashing.

Stitch together as many squares as you want, then slice the sides off at a 60 degree angle. Add sashing and cornerstones if you wish.

Love that quilt and block. I think I will try it for one of my comfort quilts at work. Gonna have to get some variegated thread too, it adds a really nice touch.

Yeah, it's great. I particularly like the brights against the black. But my favorite aspect is the variegated thread changing colors on the black -- I love that effect!! Well done, you should be proud.

It's beautiful!! Can I ask what pantograph is? Is it a style/technique and is it programmed into a machine since the circles are so perfect?

I am not going to start another quilt, I am not going to start another quilt, I am not going to start another quilt!!

What a neat idea and your quilting is awesome, Mary!

I love the thread and your quilting 'design'?? (I am not up on quilting symantics - and like jck above I have no idea what a pantograph is :))

I am a fan of the color blue (and green) and I love the medium blue colored fabric you have with the blue on the sash (yes, just learned what THAT was!)

I'd love to see the whole quilt... :)

A pantograph pattern is a continuous line quilting pattern printed on paper. The pattern is on the table of my long-arm machine and I follow it with a stylus on the back of my machine.

It makes quilting fast and easy (read cheap)for people who can't afford or don't want custom work on their quilts.

Another great quilt from such a simple pattern. The variegated thread is perfect.

It's amazing how a simple pattern can become so stunning with the right color and finishing choices! I love it. You did a wonderful job on the quilting.
