I just did a very quick basic search online, but I couldn't find any free patterns; although I saw some websites that sold the pattern. I didn't go very deep into the search so you may want to try it.

This isn't a link to the pattern but it is a good picture that shows one version of the placement of the blocks.

You use regular log cabin blocks and make the stars in the 2 strips of sashing. If you can't find a pattern you can probably figure out how to do the sashing by looking at the picture.

Well, I apologize...I'm looking again and now I'm not finding very much. I can't remember what I put in the search, but it must be because I'm at work and was in a hurry. I did find this pattern for a Colorado Log Cabin Table Runner, so maybe the pattern could be adapted for a quilt.

Eleanor Burns has a book (which I have) called Star Log Cabin Quilt. Is it the same pattern? There are various layouts just like a regular log cabin and the stars do come together when it's sashed, like Kate said. Some are 2 narrow strips and some are one wider strip....your choice.

Looking under "star log cabin quilt pattern" I did find it for sale on amazon.com. Although I can't tell for sure, it looks like it might be the only pattern in the book. Kind of pricey for just one pattern.

I have Eleanore Burns' book (altho I was looking for it when this question came up and I can't find it). It is just one pattern. But it's extremely detailed. It would be a great choice for a beginner.

I think I found the origin of the pattern in a Judy Martin out of print book called 'Scrap Quilts'. I found the book on Abe books - time will tell if it is the right pattern. The Eleanor Burns book looks promising as well.

If that is the pattern please let me know as I have been looking everywhere for it also. I know the amish said they found it in Judy Martin Scrap quilt book however I find she has several books out I ordered one on log cabins and it wasn't in there.

One of the earliest classes I took when i started quilting was a Log Cabin with stars. It was from a book with templates by Sharlene Jorgenson. It was made almost as paulah above described. This first one was black and grey with gold stars and then I made another in green and beige with red stars. grandsons still have them.

I might have that Judy Martin book in my sewing room. Will check when I get home. If I have it, it might be for sale. That is a beautiful quilt!

The book I have is "Scraps" by Judy Martin. The Colorado Log Cabin quilt is not in this book. Sorry.....

the quilt In a day pattern uses square with half triangles to form the sash corner stars. the original colorado log cabin by judy martin has true lemoyne stars in the sashing. i can't figure out how to join as their are no straight lines. I looked closely at the cover of judy 's scrap book as someone above suggests and indeed thr colorado log cabin is indeed in the stack. but somebody else said it is not in that book. bummer. she's written a LOT of books and I hate to buy them one by one to find it. any help would be greatly appreciated!
