Hi Kim, I just found your question about hardwood flooring and I'm doing the exact same thing as you. I'm considering a dark wire-brushed hardwood throughout for a country-elegant custom home. What did you decide to do and are you happy with it?

Kimberlyn, we have made several floors recently for people doing similar projects. The thing to remember is that one day you will want to refinish the floors and when you do what complications will that special finish add to the project. We offer wire brushed and handscraped but I always have our client think through the whole process before creation of their floor. Here are some great farm floors we just made for a client in Birmingham. They are 10" rustic White Oak. All long length.

I would suggest a medium tone distressed floor for your modern farmhouse. I love the warmth and age of this engineered wood product from Kentwood. The photo has a green product tag is you desire additional information.

HI -- For a farm house wether it's a modern one or not ,- I love the look of a wide plank natural finish wood floors that shows the wood grain the most . It's warm and charming and modern too. I also love the look of the weathered wood flooring , that would also work in a farm house and can also look very modern and or french country .

I agree with lefty47 that wide planks are pretty and traditional. Choose a product that is not prone to warping if you go with wide planks.

I like a natural finish on wood floors the best, because I enjoy seeing the wood grain.

Research all of your options. An eco-friendly green floor might be a consideration.

Quarter Sawn White Oak would be very stable. 50% more stable than flat or plain sawn flooring. Look into it and see if seems like something you would like.
