Question for today 3/25

What was the last quilt pattern (or Book) you bought?

The last quilt pattern I bought was Autumn Splendor from allpeoplequilt.com. I bought this pattern for my daughter for her birthday in January and made the appliqued center block for her then filled the box with material to go in the quilt when she makes it.

I rarely buy patterns anymore as there are so many on line, but once in a while there is just that one pattern that you just got to have.

My DD gave me Jelly Roll Quilts for Christmas. It has 17 projects and each one uses one jelly roll. She also gave me a jelly roll. It's a very nice book.

I purchased some for gifts at the Camp Cheerio Retreat. Can't say what they are, that would ruin the surprise. But DH and DDs have loved them.

The last book I bought was Scraps and Shirttails by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville.com. She uses men's cotton shirts from Goodwill and thrift shops as the "scraps" in the scrappy quilts in this book.

I don't usually buy patterns because I'm addicted to figuring out how a quilt is broken down into blocks and how the blocks go together. Give me graph paper and colored pencils and I can entertain myself for hours!

But at a recent quilt show I had a blast going through bins of old patterns. I found a couple of primitive looking wall hangings - one with bunnies and one with crows - that I had to buy. I think the only other pattern book I've purchased was a 'how to paper piece' book with some patterns in it. Still haven't mastered that...

The last book I bought was on Celtic Quilt applique. Someday I will get around to making one.

The last book I bought was Bella Bella Quilts. I've dreamed about these quilts for a long time and finally broke down and purchased it! Also bought the foundation papers and a border print fabric. Need to get the 'guts' and then I'll start working on it...

I bought two at the same time: Quilting with My Sister: 15 Projects to Celebrate Women's Lives/by Barbara Brandeburg and Teri Christopherson and Dear HANNAH: In the Style of Jane A. Stickle/by Brenda Manges Papadakis. Haven't gotten around to making anything from either yet but have been enjoying looking at them and dreaming.

I can't remember the last one I bought, but the last one I was given is Eleanor Burns Stars Across America.

gin....I have Dear Hannah (Dear Jane, too) and even started it. I was going scrappy, but I think I'd rather have it as a controlled scrappy....don't know....might start all over again.

The last book I bought was Scraps and Shirttails by Bonnie K. Hunter, the same book Teresa last bought.

I have made the quilt for my niece from her dad's shirts, he passed away three years ago. I need to take a picture of the quilt and share with you all. I didn't use one of the patterns in the book, but used a picture of a quilt that was pictured behind Ms. Hunter on her "about the author" page. It turned out really nice and I know my niece will love it.

I am a new quilter and a book lover-a dangerous combination for sure.
The last two books I bought were "Quick & East Romantic Quilts" 8 designs by Sandy Berry. The fabrics she uses is the romantic part. I needed a pattern to showcase a particular sailing fabric I felt required a large uncut block to feel the motion of the boats and water. The center block is 16" finished and was perfect. Then I came across another fabric by accident that was perfect for this quilt - also nautical & I made the quilt top in bold, bright colors - for a gift. Nothing Romantic about my quilts unless you are a sailor!
The second book I bought was "Easy Machine Quilting" 12 step-by-step lessons from the pros. (A Rodale Quilt Book). I recommend this book highly for learning machine quilting on a regular sewing machine. I am practicing free motion and stippling and learning alot. I actually feel like I am close to "getting it".
I recommend both these books to new quilters.
Unfortunately, we have a small library with poor selection and I am disappointed in the quilt books at our Borders which is a huge store.
I am thinking of buying Ricky Tims Convergence Quilts (title may not be exact) but would like to see it or have recommendations.

I have more books than most quilting stores, many bought used. I just bought four more used books at the quilt show on Saturday with subjects of FMQ and applique. Then I ordered online the new book that just came out from Deb Karasik to make spikey quilts plus her CD of patterns. It's all paper piecing and she was a real hoot in her workshop. Book is called Quilts With Attitude. It's like her workshop "to go". Love it.

I get most of my patterns from magazines but have a good sized collection of books and patterns.
The last book I bought I think was last summer, "More Nichel quilts" by Pat Speth and have not used it for a quilt yet. The same with the last pattern, "Medley of Birds" by Larene Sinema. That I got because of the beautiful collection of birds for applique. Would like to do that someday.
I also have "Dear Jane" book and I am making the blocks by hand. It doesn't get worked on very often as they are not easy to do. It is my "take along" for vactions and friendly craft get togeathers. I am into the second row of blocks. Jayne
