I'm pretty sure it's copyrighted. I've seen the pattern in quilt stores but never bought it. My LQS offers classes in it from time to time.

Rebecca: This is an easy one to draft yourself. It's really just a Half Log Cabin made from wide strips of two contrasting colors in each block.

The HLC is formed from a center square plus contrasting color strips sewn to two adjacent sides of the square, then two strips the same color as the center square sewn to the same two sides of the block again. Make a bunch of different fabric combinations, then mix and match four HLCs to make the larger blocks.

If you know what size HCL block you want in the end, all you need to do to determine your strip width is to divide that by three and add 1/2" for seam allowances. For example: If you want to end up with 6" HCL, you would divide by 3 and add 1/2" which gives you a strip width of 2 1/2". Your center square would be 2 1/2" x 2 1/2". The HCLs would end up 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" which would result in a 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" block when four are sewn together. (12 x 12 when sewn into the quilt top.)

Does this make sense?

Go to the Gallery and see Sharon's Mixed up Butterflies using the bento box pattern. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! I sat down this afternoon and sketched it out on some graph paper after looking at some more pics online. Hopefully, I will get started on it this week.

Rebecca

As I was looking thru Goggle images of Bento Box, I saw one done in pinks......what a neat way to use all these pink scraps I have and make a top for the Breast Cancer Awareness Auction. I might have to scale the block down to 12" finished instead of 15" though so I can use scraps. Hmmmm, will have to think about this one.....

Jean, Thanks for jogging my memory! @:)

Sharon: I give the measurements for a 12" block in my earlier reply.

Annie

Thank you, Annie, but I'm thinking I'll start with a 5" center, make a large block then cut that into 4th's and have 4-6 1/2" blocks....in any event, it would be for next year as I've almost completed all the blocks for this years auction.

I was looking for this pattern today and found this. Hope it helps
