Diamond Brite (super blue or cool blue)

We had stonescapes done in aqua blue in our 74x34 pool. Because the pool was so big they had to do it over a 2 day period. Day 1 went smooth, day 2 the pump broke 1/2 way through the project so these clowns applied the mix with buckets and smoothed things out as best as they could. There were areas that barely had 1/4 inch of plaster. Basically it was a horrible job, the walls were all wobbly and uneven, and not only that, they exposed too much of the rocks so when they acid washed it a ton of rocks fell off, there were areas that had no pebble, other areas that were bald, and even an area with exposed cement. They also let the acid sit on the bottom of the pool way too long, and it totally ate away the bottom of the pool leaving a pool of loose pebbles. What a nightmare. The PB said it had allot to do with the fact that there are huge flat areas of the pools, and this type of pool can't be done with pebble (duhh, and to think that he was the one to recommend it to us). Anyways, they will demo the pebble plaster and redo it with diamond brite (his recommendation). It really sucks because we have come to love the pebble finishes so much, but he won't attempt it again. Any info on diamond brite is appreciated, we have narrowed it down to (Super Blue or Cool Blue). If anyone can share pictures or input, I would really appreciate it.

We've got Cool Blue Diamond Brite, and I love it-- just had the pool filled three weeks ago, and with brushing, I really see the blue color deepening each day. We were originally planning on getting Blue Quartz, but our neighbor has it in a recently refinished pool, and it's much paler than cool blue. Super Blue is a little too intense for me, but to each his own.

We had our diamondbrite installed 2 weeks ago.

I'm sure cool blue and super blue are nice.

My pb seemed to like mixing colors, as did at least one other of the pb's that we had interviewed.

We ended up using a mix of 8 tahoe blue, 1 midnight blue, and 1 onyx. I had looked at one that our pb did with a similar recipe, but decided we wanted ours a little darker, hence our recipe.

I *think* I'm satisfied with our DB. It's not perfect, and has gotten closer to an even finish with brushing. I didn't expect this color to be mottle-free, and it's not.

Of course, who knows what it will look a few years down the road?

We plan on managing our water chemistry closely using bbb, so hopefully we can maintain it's color/texture.

How long before you have to make a decision? Do you have a sample to look at?

I truly do not understand how "flat areas" can cause problems with using a pebble finish. Since he is the one who recommended the pebble finish to you, it must not actually be a problem.

If I were in your shoes, I'd make him redo the pebble interior.

Kelly (Huskyridor) has a massive-size pool like yours, and I think he's got a pebble interior. Hopefully, you'll hear from him soon for a true, professional opinion.

Well, I am in the process of having my Pebble-Tec pool redone (acid wash today) but my problems were no where as near severe as yours sound. In my case it was just a matter of too much exposure of the pebble in some areas, leaving a rougher-than normal surface.

You should call the manufacturer of Stonescapes to get their opinion on applying their surface to a pool your size. It makes no sense to me either. If you don't want diamond brite - don't give up without a fight!

I know you didn't ask for midnight, or tahoe, or onyx, but I needed somewhere to post my first decent pic... so your thread seemed as good as any..... ;o

Who knows if this is the final color, but here's a pic, 2 weeks after plaster, pretty bright sun...

deck is not finished, lawn is still a mess...

Ours is 3M Quartz Blue/Cayman Green Blend.

Hi thejimfar -- Wow this is amazing that a mixture of green and a light turquoise like Quartz blue could end up like this! I am finding it so hard to predict colors.

Did you end up using Cool Blue or Super Blue? How deep is your pool? I am in the same decision making process and cannot decide!
