What size are the blocks. If they are 5" or so I would stitch around the blocks. Could you post pic so we could have a better idea? Jayne

my blocks are 9 inch square.

Why not machine stitch about 1/4 inch around the leaves (use a longer stitch length) and it will give some definition of it. Stitch in the ditch is not always a great way to accent the piece to show it off.... 'outlining' can make it a bit more interesting.

Try it on a sample piece and see how you like it.

I agree with Barbara. It gives a quilt much more definition and it'll still be very easy for you. You can even get 1/4" masking tape in sewing supply areas.

My friend is doing a quilt with a Maple Leaf pattern. She is going to outline the leaves. Which will define the leaves more, outlining inside or outside the leaf? I'm thinking outside but she thinks that outlining the inside will 'puff' the leaf. Thanks for your input.
