$88 Deal

I just had to share my comforter set that I found marked down from $250 (3 times) to $88. The set includes comforter, shams and dust skirt.

I have been searching for a few years for something that would match my dust skirt (that I made to be the perfect length), bedroom chair, and hand sewn pillows. I have never been happy with the comforter I made to match the above. Both sides are upholstery fabric and I tell you that the thing is REALLY heavy and hard to work with!

After moving into our latest home, and painting the walls to go with the green and gold comforter, plus finding the perfect rug that matched everything (I've shown pictures before and will post them below), I had given up hope of finding that perfect comforter.

I was walking through Stein-Mart yesterday, and as always, took a run through the bedding department. A display caught my eye and my heart caught in my throat. I thought, "the perfect comforter!", as I walked over to take a closer look. That's when I noticed the sign that said 30% off already reduced (red lined) prices. My daughter was with me and she thought it would also be perfect, so I brought it home for a test.

I was afraid that the color wouldn't look as good at home and I was also worried that the comforter would not be large enough to cover my King mattress (I have found this to be true in stock items and one reason I made my own comforter). However, the set is Nina Campbell and I have her bath towels (that are great!), so hoped that the set was well made. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that not only is the color perfect, but the size is very ample.

The accompanied dust skirt has a shorter drop than the one I made, but I thought I would put it on the bed for the summer and then change back to my entire old ensemble for the winter months (the hand-made comforter is nice and cozy in the winter :)). My DH vetoed that idea and said that he is not going to lift that mattress on and off twice a year, so unless I can get one of the children to help, the original dust skirt stays. The new dust skirt is just the plain green material, with gold fringe. I could probably use the material to make valances for the Master bath, though.

The bed was so easy to make up today! :)

It is hard to get a good bedroom shot in the daytime, because the sun is so bright. The room is a lot brighter than it appears in the photos. Also, the comforter is still crinkled from the packaging and really needs to be steamed. I know I need curtains in this room to soften the look, but DH is not budging on this one, as we have 4 areas to cover (8 panels). Besides, I don't know what to use if I did get curtains.

Anyway, here are some poor photos. Not a bad deal for $88!

That's so beautiful! What great luck!

So it's a *comforter* rather than a duvet cover? If there's a duvet like it, I'd probably buy one in a second...where is a Stein-Mart around us...

Darn. There's not one near us at all.

Beautiful! And I love all your colors and even the blinds.

My little JRT/chihuahua loves to sit just like that -- not too relaxed, ready to go at a second's notice!

Forgot to mention that we don't have curtains around our master bedroom (or anywhere in our home) -- just the blinds AND a wood cornice box -- which we painted to match the walls. Perhaps that might be a way to finish your windows -- and keep your DH happy too?

Wow, what a great find and I see the ham is letting us know she's still around. That ensemble is a dead on match with your rug.

Oh that is gorgeous and such a good price.
Like tea cats says i don't think it is necessary to hang curtains. The wood cornices painted would be nice or perhaps wood cornices upholstered with that extra material from the extra bedskirt or if you have any more material from the original bedskirt. That is a lovely bedskirt by the way. The whole room is faboulous.

Yes, I failed to mention that my original is a duvet cover. The photo shown has the cover without the duvet inside. Also, now that I see the photos posted, the new comforter is a bit more green than it looks in the picture. I think the flash, combined with the wrinkles and gold trim, makes it look more gold.

wooderlander - I think my Riley "little ham" is in the mist of rolling over and scratching her back, in the photo. LOL

    teacats and lyban - I hadn't thought about cornices.hmmmm

Good score - the first time I was in a Steinmart I was shocked at how beautiful the Nina Campbell bed linens were - very rich looking. It's perfect for your room, very luxurious.

Beautiful--and it looks like puppy wasn't thrilled with the 'before' set either: "I'm staging a protest and not getting up until you get a new comforter set!"

The comforter is perfect, and your room is lovely!

Your rug caught my eye, because I've been looking for months for an Oriental in those colors. Can you tell me where you found it?

What is Stein-Mart? I will have to see if we have one.

Rats! There's nothing within many miles of us.

WOW!!! Talking about resurrecting a thread. :)

I purchased the rug and a hall runner from Rug & Home in Asheville, NC. I can look for the name and brand from the back, if you would like.

I have to add my kudos too! I love it! I love the embellishments it adds so much texture and luxe to the room. I love that you have non bedside tables in your room! I guess because your room is so large.

newhomebuilder, I would love to have the name and brand of the rug, if you wouldn't mind looking. Maybe I can find it around here.

I actually like the blinds in that room; they contribute to the serene look, and your window moldings are pretty. I don't think I'd like curtains as well. I do like the idea of a wooden cornice to finish the top.

Most of the windows in my house are still bare, although I've finally ordered window treatments for the living room.

I love your bedroom: warm and elegant at the same time. And the comforter is spectacular!

cooperbailey - That portion of the bedroom is actually kind of small, however I think we could use some better bedside tables and need taller/larger lamps. The missed match tables are what we have to work with now. :)

The name of the rug is Jack Nicklaus(I know) by Shaw Living. The style and color is Windstone/Beige.

Thank you, newhomebuilder! (I had no idea Jack Nicklaus had a second career as a rug designer!)

I had a feeling that was the rug - I had seen that before and LOVED it - but did not love the price!! However, if I am still leaning towards that one - it must be the one for me!!

I think that the only reason my DH went along with buying the bedroom rug and the hall runner(bathroom to bedroom), was because the name was JN. Rolleyes
